Volumio 3 Beta test: New init

Hey @Robert.Hecht,

Our devs are looking into this. Very odd indeed.

Kind Regards,

Have you tried another SD card? just tried to update (different SD card) from v3.701 (new flash) to v3.702, same problem.
log: http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/WH8cPhV.html
Raspberry Pi 4.
will try tonight on a raspberry pi 3.

this is SD card number 3 where it doesn’t work. This must be due to the custom adjustments I make to the system.
USB stick no problem.
EDIT: is there something wrong with the time?

@michel8166
Hello, the only thing I can tell you is that no OTA update worked for me on the large 128Gb SD cards I own. I went back to a 8Gb one and it works every time.
I tried with fresh new installations of Volumio, without success, so for me it has nothing to do with the custom adjustments.
But i’m not a dev and I don’t understand much :wink:

@MitchStoner, @michel8166,

In all test I am using MircoSD 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB. Not endorsing any brand, SanDisk Extreme PRO have never failed on me except for times when testing removal during write.
Perhaps details of your extra configuration changes may unveil the reason for the OTA upgrade failure. One well known obstacle is otherwise excellent PeppyMeter enabled during upgrade.

As basic as it may sound - after downloading volumio release zip, before flashing, you will decompress the file and flash .img file to MicroSD, not .zip.

Kind Regards,

These are the only modifications I made.
I do have to (because of my dac) enter dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus in the userconfig.txt, see the link for why. maybe it has something to do with that.
I always unzip the zip file.
ps, when I use the same SD card with the regular volumio, no problem with updating.

boot/userconfig.txt

# 7,9 inch hdmi touchscreen
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_timings=400 0 100 10 140 1280 10 20 20 2 0 0 0 60 0 43000000 3
# ian canada FifoPI MA
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dacplus
# power off button
dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown,gpio_pin=13,active_low=1,gpio_pull=up=gpio-shutdown
# led + op gpio-15 en massa
gpio=15=op,dh

I have also noticed that every now and then I hear a clicking sound through the speakers.
with the regular volumio v3.661 that click is not present.

hence I am now a bit skeptical to update to regular v3.695.

Hey @michel8166,

I am not sure if you will be willing to test when the “click” happens. I would start with all plugins disabled and playing audio tracks from the Volumio itself, then add one source by one, plugins one by one and identify the culprit by process of elimination. I appreciate that the task will be tedious, however without errors thrown, there is little to work on.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for reporting. This has been fixed. Just reboot and you will see it working

this should be solved now, could you please try again and confirm?

I’ll test it out and let you know.

will test it out.
Edit: tried and it works👍

I came from v3.701.

okay this is what i tested.

v3.703

all plugins off, resampling at 24/192khz/high (this is because of my pcm 1794 dac) playback
internet radio volumio all good.
FusionDSP turned on upsamling “192khz/quality +++” playing internet radio, everything works fine.
Spotify connect via Spotify app, not good, clicks and sometimes strange sound, sometimes from left to right, louder and softer, not always nice in the middle.
Spotify logged in via Volumio, no more clicks, sound also better.

then touch display enabled and a reboot due to orientation.
Spotify (logged in) and internet radio everything okay.

now playing plugin turned on Spotify logged in, everything okay, no clicks.

turned on infrared plugin, everything okay.
turned on rotary encoder II, everything okay.

Logged out of Spotify and rebooted and connected to music via the Spotify app, every now and then a click again.

quite a story, but it boils down to something happening somewhere in Spotify Connect and FusionDSP that triggers the occasional click.

FusionDSP: v1.0.53
spotify: 4.0.4
ir remote controller: 3.4.13
rotary encoder II: 1.0.22
now playing: 0.60
touch display: 3.4.0

Hi,

the OTA (not “test mode”) from the 3.661 offers the 3.695 - not the 3.701 - is this intended to be so?

Cheers,
Robert

Hey Robert,

Stable release is 3.695. Newer versions are from the production test channels, not beta test as it previously was.

Kind Regards,

I can suggest to update existing threads in the help section with your findings.

Kind Regards,

Hey them all,

this has been a very reactive, productive and efficient beta test phase. Thanks a lot to all the testers and developers involved - especially to @nerd , you did a great job here!

:heart:

Best regards,
Robert

We think that but never say it out loud… :joy:

This was, still is, genuinely Volumio community and team effort. Thank you all for collaboration.

Kind Regards,

Yes Robert, the team is happy he joined, and is still looking for a project manager for Bookworm, hint, hint😉

mmm, Robject manager… it’s possible :slight_smile:
