Volume Control on Android phone

I am using my Android phone for both playing different apps on it , and also for controlling my Raspberry Pi with the Volumio app. But the volume control on my phone (its actual up/dn buttons) prioritize controlling the volume of Volumio on the RPI.
I’m hoping there’s a simple solution that I’m not aware of. This far, what I came up with is turning off the wifi on the phone, which would force it to stop controlling the RPI Volumio, and instead control the volume of the app I want to play on the phone at that time.
Thanks!

If I’m not clear on the above, I’d hope the Volumio app would have an option to choose what my phone would control the volume of.

To gauge how inconvenient this is, assuming I have my phone off wifi, and adjust the volume to a certain level (for a “local” phone player), next time I reconnect the wifi on my phone, Volumio jumps at that volume level. This may mean it jumps to levels blasting my windows to shards, if that’s what I was doing with my phone audio app listening in my headphones. It’s far worse than impractical.

I have noticed the same problem. If the Volumio app for Android is active on the phone, the device volume is set to maximum for all apps and after any attempts to change it returns to maximum. After disabling the Volumio app, the phone starts working properly and you can adjust the device volume.

Same problem for me

Thanks guys for your feedbacks.

We are on it. Will update you shortly

That’s right, rak39, sometimes I’m trying to adjust the volume on the phone and I can’t. It’s like two antagonistic adjustments are fighting. I think this happens when the phone tries to control both a “local” phone player and the “remote” RPI Volumio.

Are you using software in the settings?

Even google cast (Chromecast) volume rockers don’t work properly, something to do with copyright, could also be to do with android gremlins.

I recommend getting a DAC with remote control and getting over messing with it on the phone. topping dx3 pro+ good and cheap.

Controlling it by phone is one of the major conveniences and draws of this. The DAC I have (100% DIY) doesn’t, and will never have a remote. And I’m definitely not changing my DAC to mitigate a software bug. Therefore this is a pretty crucial issue to sort out.

I don’t think this was like this for a long time. I think there may have been some update or something that changed how the phone volume control interacts with the remote Volumio. I assume a software update of the app on the phone could add an on/off button that segregates the control of the device volume buttons between local phone apps and remote Volumio.

The volume control of the Volumio app on Android is now working properly.
Thanks for the quick fix.
Best regards

sorry,
update,
it still doesn’t work😧

Same problem here. On two off my android device’s.

Both on Android 14.
For example, if the Facebook app is open and a video is playing, the volume will follow the Volumio app. when I lower the volume on the Facebook app it happily goes back to 100%

I’ll use mixer type hardware.

Still an issue. @volumio

this is due to Android system thinking that there is local music playing, the app needs to tell system that the playback is happening elsewhere, and that it does need another volume slider so that we don’t need to mess with the system media volume. For convenience you also might want to disable the app side volume control all together when the device mixer is set to none.

Any update on the issue? It’s impossibile to use Volumio on an Android phone—unless you’re okay with playing at full volume :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Hello,

The fix is still in progress, and we understand how challenging it can be to use the Android app in its current state.
It’s a bit complex to resolve, but please rest assured it’s actively being worked on and remains a priority for us.
