Volumio Rivo annoying issue!

The issue I have been experienced 100’s of times that is pretty much destroying the excellent enjoyment sound wise- Rivo randomly, sometimes several time a day stops playing (paid Tidal, Qobuz) music services with network (wired) properly connected and working (happens no matter if it is connected directly to Gb router or Gb switch LAN). The UI becomes irresponsible- frozen, sometimes shows playing still ongoing but with no sound, sometimes completely frozen or even showing/ skipping thru various, not even selected tracks.
The only solution to solve this is to restart Rivo via webb/ IOS app and in some situation even power off is necessary.
Did factory reset couple of times, but this problem keeps repeating…
I am not the IT programmer, just a regular user (but long time experienced in streaming audio), I am not here to struggle with the operating system glitches, just want the music to flow as expected and advertised from this (not cheap) device!
Please give a feedback and accordingly the solution! ASAP!

Hi @koksg

To start can you upgrade to V3.886, as I see you running V3.874.
Here are some fixes.

Use your web browser and go to: http://192.168.0.10/dev
image

OK, did it, now it is on 3.886.
What next, to sit and wait if problem repeats (I can bet it will), or you are working on some real fix?
I understand this OS/SW is an open source, so people can play with their custom made equipment, but for the stock devices- people interested primarily to music listening, you should develop a reliable system that works without glitches and out of the box…IMO.

When here already, I would like to again remind you/ report an issue with Volumio Apple app not working crashing on IOS 12.xx. (works with IOS 15-18-26)

Also reported on Apple Store and by E-mail (Marco)

No update on this issue yet?
Reported on Oct 10 (Apple Store), your comment from 24 Nov (you promised to fix it ASAP)> check screenshot from 13 Dec attached.
Not fixed!

br,
G

@koksg

I’ve directed you to Volumio’s official reporting channel.
Just a quick reminder that I’m only a volunteer helping moderate the forum, I’m not paid and I don’t have any formal connection to the Volumio team.

I’m simply trying to help out as a fellow community member.

Hey @koksg,

@Wheaten has already clarified this, but let me reinforce the point: you are directing demands at volunteer community moderators for a commercial product that comes with dedicated manufacturer support.

The Volumio Rivo is a premium device marketed with “one-on-one support to help with everything from set-up to troubleshooting - always available for you.” That support comes from Volumio Srl, the company that sold you the device and collected your money. It does not come from unpaid community volunteers who donate their personal time to help other hobbyists.

Your appropriate channels are:

These connect you to Volumio’s paid staff who have access to device telemetry, development resources, and the authority to escalate firmware issues. We have none of those things.

Regarding the iOS app on iOS 12.xx - this is completely unrelated to your Rivo streaming issue and should not be bundled into the same thread. That feedback belongs in your direct communication with Marco or through Apple’s App Store review system, which you already used. Following up on commercial support commitments is between you and the company, not forum moderators.

The community forum exists for users running Volumio on DIY hardware - Raspberry Pi builds, x86 systems, custom configurations - where manufacturer support does not exist and community knowledge fills the gap. Commercial product owners have access to resources we cannot provide and should use them.

Kind Regards,

Hi @koksg
we’re sorry you’re having this issue (annyoing! ). As the others mentioned, you’re entitled to have premium support from our specialists and we will get your issue sorted.

The log helps and we are examining it. Please report to our specialist if the issue occurs again after the update.

@nerd
Thanks for your kind response and support,
and sorry for the inconvenience, if any

OK, thanks

I have the same issue using Tidal. I’m on the latest release and shared log with Volumio team previously via email. No reponses after the latest update, which didn’t fix the issue.

This happens all the time. Have to pause and then press restart for music to play again. Then it happens again.

To test if its something in my set-up, I bought a WIIM - it works perfectly with Tidal on my system. So deduced that it is an issue between Tidal and Volumio.

Any recommendations are appreciated

Factory reset, unplugging everything, restart - nothing helps

Hi @JohannM
we checked our emails and support but we could not locate the conversation.

Would you mind telling to which email you wrote to? We are afraid we have a lost communication here and we want to trace it down and fix it.

For TIDAL, we have been doing many fixes recenly (with one deployed just now) if you still experience the issue, can you please open a support ticket with your log and we’ll help you get sorted, thanks.

Hi @volumio the correspondence was with Marco around 19 November.

@volumio Opened a support ticket

Don’t know exactly to whom to report if this issue occurs again (by e-mail? to ‘‘Jira Service Management’’ - do they have the track record of specific topic, or should I copy/ paste everything)
BTW, and for your info- I have just noticed a rather strange situation, don’t know if it has anything to do due to the advised by you update- to a test V 3.886? It is that after powering Rivo today, the green led was constantly on- not going to a blue at all, while Rivo got connected and playing…the very user interface was rather slow and sluggish, and there was no ‘‘hardware settings’’ option visible in system settings UI!
Rivo reset> no change
Router and Rivo reset> no change
Rivo hard powered off (back button) for 15 minutes, after powering on> blue led lit after green and hardware settings accessible normally.
I do not have any log file to send at the moment, but find this report should be of your interest.
kr,
G
Just to add to this led lights issue> after forced restart made (again from bc same reason as before- streaming stopped), led turned from red directly to blue (no green in between)…don’t know if this light show has something to do with Christmas preps or 3.886 update

I’ve also had this issue, but it was on volumio, proper, and Gentoo player, regardless if I was using Roon, qobuz, or Audirvana.

It’s so frustrating, I haven’t yesterday solved it. I am running virgin media, in to an orbi router, now in to a switch (was recommended on another forum) this has helped reduce the frequency of issues (maybe), but it’s not eliminated them.

I have run the error logs through AI to read, and it mentions a possible memory issue. I never had this issue with blusesound or lumin, but the streamer I now use, magna mano 3.5 is the best sounding one I have used.

I feel your pain, some days I just want to throw it out.

Sailin’ the same boat
Now it is happening every day, today twice (and a half)…I am in contact with R&D team, sending logs regularly, but with no feedback/ solution yet.

Hello, we have identified a possible bug that would cause the system to hang and playback to stop when using TIDAL or Qobuz.

The next update will contain a fix for this issue.

I have the same problem with Qobuz. I use my android phone with the Volumio app to interface with my Rivo+ and what I’ve realized is that if my phone is greater than 1 or 2 meters away from the Rivo+, the app is incredibly un-responsive, necessitating constant restarts of the unit. I am unsure of why that is the case since the Rivo+ connects to my wifi just fine with the router being at the top of the stairs around the corner.

I look forward to seeing how they update the software over time. I certainly miss many of the quality of life features the Tidal or Qobuz native apps have in general.
