Spotify Connect

What is your output device? What is your volume control (none, softvol, hardware)?
Do you use a other plugin?

I have hifiberry DAC+. Mixer is Software. The only other plugin I have is Spotify Connect2.
But I also tried to run it without Spotify Connect2 installed but this does not change the behaviour.

As I said the problems seems to be the connect to spotify already. If I activate Connect 1.7.3 it does not show up on my phone as a Spotify Connect device.
All is working fine with the Spotify Connect2.

I had the same issue. I “solved” the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin and waiting longer with clicking on close in the second install completed screen. Not sure why (maybe it needs more time to actually install and it didn’t complete), but this fixed the issue for me.

I am on Spotify Connect version 1.7.1 (will update to 1.7.3 soon). All works well, but i have 1 problem.
When playing Radio (album or playlist radio) it should ‘load’ new songs when towards the end of the list and that works on my phone, but doesn’t on my Raspberry.

More details can be read here: community.spotify.com/t5/Ongoin … -p/1466157
This is exact the situation i have.

Maybe you can fix this @balbuze ?

I don’t think anything can be done, as this is a limitation with the c++ library (LibSpotify) that is used as it doesn’t support ‘dynamic’ playlists such as Daily mixes and Radio.
Can’t do much about it at this point - even librespot (open source implementation of the Spotify Connect protocol) does not support dynamic playlists yet. Got to wait for Spotfiy to release the much awaited shiny new version of LibSpotify.

Okay, thanks for your clear explanation. So that’s the reason why the Spotify plugin doesn’t support it.
I have a old smartphone lying just next to the raspberry using Connect, but i could also use the webGui then…right?
I just hoped that it was possible to push it somehow with Connect. I wrongly assumed it worked that way. And yes, i’ll sit and wait, i know Spotify is not that quick though

I don’t follow - Even the Spotify plugin from Volumio (non connect) as far as I recall doesn’t support Radio or Daily Mixes - as again it uses spop, which is again based on LibSpotify.

The best option for now is to keep tabs on librespot and hope that support for dynamic playlists gets added soon

True…so far the only option i know of is to use Exagear Desktop on my RPI3 in combination with Spotify but i am not eager to abandon Volumio2

No joy on x86. Install the main Spotify app, it works. Installed 0.4.6 it activates in the UI but I don’t see Volumio in my devices, tried 0.4.7EXP same thing. Any ideas? Is there a log file?

Never mind, user error. Volumio shows up but only on my Android device (I think I checked before and it wasn’t there but now it is), however not on the Windows desktop app until I start playing (similar to Chromecast Audio), this may have to do with me logging in with Facebook credentials. I reverted to 0.4.6 as 0.4.7EXP tries to launch librespot with a parameter for the initial volume level that librespot cannot understand.

is it possible to change the shown name in spotify? ther is always “volumio”. i changed the name in volumio settings but nothing changend.

set the name you want in volumio and then disable and re-enable the plugin.

For info, a new version of volspotconnect2 brings a lot of improvments/features

  • A new setting for initial volume of Spotify
  • A new setting to enable/disable volume normalization
  • Add metadata in console (not yet in webUI, but first step for that…)
  • Add shuffle and repeat
  • Onstart uses curl instead of wget

get it here : https://github.com/balbuze/volumio-plugins/raw/master/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect2/volspotconnect2.zip

Hi Balbuze, can you explain the differences between volspotconnet and volspotconect2?
I use volspotconect, I like to show in Volumio the data of the transmission.
But I see that you are still developing volspotconnect2.
Thanks for your attention.

Daniel

Hi,

I’ve been using volspotconnect 1.7.3 for a while now, works perfectly.
Now your new version of Volspotconnect2 is released, i installed it, but the volume is a lot more quiet than with volspotconnect 1.7.3
Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

L.

Hi,
Even if the target is the same, volspotconnect and volspotconnect2 are not based on the same library.
Volspotconnect is based on lib spotify embeded, a closed lib from Spotify.
Volspotconnect2 is based on librespot (github.com/librespot-org/librespot) an open source lib with a very activ dev.
Up to now, librespot use its own software mixer, not the alsa mixer (if exists) of your system. In the last version, a logarithmic volume control was introduce. The scale is a bit different in order to get a fine control at low level.
But, the maximum level reached is the value set in alsa. It means that if volumio is set to 45%, the max level of volspconnect2 45%.
In the future we can expect the use of alsa to set the volume.
Last point, some features of Spotify may be not (yet) handle properly by librepot. But each new version is better!
Since the last release of volumio, volspotconnect2 is a standard plugin, so to install it, just select it from the plugins list in music_service

I am a bit confused by the 2 Spotify plugins. Do I need to have the one from Volumio installed to use the other? I tried to install both, but then Spotify stopped woring. I then unistalled Connect2, but still didnt work. Then I could not uninstall the one from Volumio so I had to completly reinstall Volumio

There is no description in the plugin screen that explain this, so it leaves me to a bit of trial and error.

Hi, i’m new to volumio, just installed it to raspi2 (volumio version 2.368)
And i have quite lot of issues with spotify connect. Installed volumio spotify connect2 from plugins, enabled it from installed plugins page, checked settings and everything seems to be fine. I can see volumio in spotify (volumio spotify connect) but nothing happens when trying to connect. I have spotify premium account. Spotify plugin works fine at volumio.

Can I has logs?
ssh into the volumio - and then

sudo journalctl -f | grep 'SpConDebug\|librespot'

As i have got the same problem this is my log:

I already implemented the lastet updated from earlier this day.
The last version which worked for me was the from 25th of january, but not very stable.

I tried to connect three times while this log was created.
I’m using a raspberry pi zero w with justboom amp on top if that matters.
