Just as an inbetween, dude this is awesome work creating the plugin. I have not yet been able to listen whether it actually works but for know everything seems to be running smoothly.
Small question I have not yet been able to find the answer for: What does the shared device option mean?
Edit: Something I was playing around with is to activate scrobble to last fm. Another dude seems to have managed to add that to his spotify connect plugin. Would it be difficult to add that to this awesome plugin? github.com/Fornoth/spotify-conn … 89c3dc33ba
Hi!
I have no plan to add last.fm in the plugin…
The next target is having a fully working software mixer.
And maybe after having album art and working buttons in the webUI.
The shared device allows all device connected (with a premium account or family account) on the same network to see the Spotify connect device and use it.
When disabled, only member with credential can use it.
Your link was useful! But I not sure to be able to do that…I struggle with the two first points…
when you write “I read on the Spotify forums that this was not possible, but apparently this was outdated”, what are you talking about ?
That was regarding the shared option. Until a while ago it was not possible to use Spotify connect with a different account. Great it has been fixed.
Edit: btw I do not yet have any experience, only sql and some basic php, but I wonder if I could try this myself? I think that in addition to the files from the other plugin some link to the Volumio ui must be made to enter the credentials right? Could you explain where the current option buttons in the plugin settings are added?
mixer_device_index 1
by
mixer_device_index X
where X is the card number. Save.
In volumioUI , go in plugin setting and activate the plugin. Don’t save setting of the plugin because it erases the config you changed.
let me know
I have another problem, the plugin don’t want to initialize :
I just uploaded it from the github repository - github.com/balbuze/volumio-plug … onnect.zip - today (28/december/2016).
When I try to launch manually the plugin, it seems that there is a problem with my DAC ?

I’m using an Arcam rPAC on a rpi3 (mpd & spotify plugin works well).
I’ll look into your script to understand what’s wrong with my configuration…
Allright, I manage to load the plugin when I remove the options relative to the mixer in the startconnect.sh script :
Original file : #this file is generated by the plugin. You should not edit it unless you know what you do. It will be overwrtie by the plugin each time a change in config is detected
cd /data/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect/spotify-connect-web
./spotify-connect-web --username ‘xx’ --password ‘xx’ --bitrate 320 --name ‘Volumio’ --playback_device plughw:5 --mixer ‘ARCAM Audio 2.0 Output’ --mixer_device_index 5 --dbrange 45 &
avahi-publish-service -s ‘Volumio’ _spotify-connect._tcp 4000 VERSION=1.0 CPath=/login/_zeroconf
Works pretty well when removing manually --mixer, --mixer_device_index and --dbrange, but the sound volume is initially set to zero.
One weird thing I’ve seen is that aplay -l doesn’t return the same DAC name :
volumio@volumio:/data/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect/spotify-connect-web$ aplay -l

Perhaps the name of the card is different than the mixer name ?
First, thanks to balbuze and others for all of the work to create this plugin! It sounds like it will be fantastic once I get it working. I am new to Volumio and RPi audio. Here is my current set up:
RPi 3, Hifiberry DAC+, Volumio 2.041
I have downloaded the latest version of volspotconnect.zip and followed the installation instructions in the readme.md file found on GitHub. When installing, I get this error:
The following error occurred when installing the plugin: TypeError: Cannot read property ‘name’ of undefined
I had Volumio playing with web radio input and working fine with hardware and software mixing. I tried installing the plugin with both hardware and software mixing.
Any suggestions for resolving this error so that I can complete the installation of the plugin?
If it would be better to take this discussion to the issues section of GitHub, let me know.
Hello,
I think the problem comes from the way you download the file. On github, click on volspotconnect.zip . In the new page, right click on raw and download. If you download from the main page, the file contains html link… Let me know.
Just to help others avoid my mistake if you use the download button to download the volspotconnect zip file using Safari on OS X, it downloads and unzips the file in the Downloads directory. I simply zipped it back up and tried to use it. That didn’t work because the zip compression scheme is different on OS X than the volumio linux distribution – duh.
You have to right click the Download button and Use the Save Linked File As… option. Noob error I know…
One final question, with the plugin installed, can I change the linux set up to disable the login authentication, so that I don’t have to enter the username and password on startup?
Thank you again for creating such a nice piece of software for others to use and enjoy.
When I reboot, I have to enter the username volume and the password volume to complete the boot process. I would like to be able to power up the system without hooking up a keyboard to enter the username and password.
I know that you can disable this, but was curious if this would cause problems with the volumio (not necessarily the volspotconnect plugin).
I see… Volumio is not designed to be used with screen/ keyboard. Once installed you access it with a other device (smartphone, computer) via a web browser. That it. You see a prompt login if a screen is plugged but it is just to use the console for very advanced features/tweak/dev. You can do the with SSH. I have several volumio devices and no one has a screen or keyboard.
So you can remove both…
