Hi!
Thanks to a tedious work, the downloaded package for armv6 (RPI 0, RPI B) is now only 11Mo (previous was 180Mo) and the footprint on the system once uncompressed and working is about 50Mo (previous more than 430Mo).
To do that, I removed one by one useless file testing each changes (ok I didn’t test one by one 
) and the new compressed format is now LZMA, which is really powerful.
With that, Volumio get (I think) the lightest Spotify connect chroot system !

That last thing not working properly is software mixer… Volume can be changed in volumio, but not in Spotfy… I would say I struggle to make it work.

Just installed on both RPi zero & RPi 2, the plugin is working with RPi2 but not RPi Zero. Just so you know.
On the RPi 2, I have to install twice before the Device show up in Spotify.
On the RPi Zero seems the plugin installed 3 times…

Several reasons can give this problem.
What is the selected output ? What is the mixer ?
could you paste the content of
cat /data/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect/spotify-connect-web/startconnect.sh
please replace your passwd and user by XXXX
could you please try to do that : systemctl stop volspotconnect
sh /data/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect/spotify-connect-web/startconnect.sh
and see and paste what it returns.
And I never tested it on a rpi0… as I don’t own one. But it was working (from other users). I’m flashing a new image for my rpi B (same cpu) to install the plugin from scratch…
Ok I found the problem… I have to correct it but I need some time.

Thé update is for rpi0 and RPI . With a RPI 2 or 3 no need to update…
First stop the plugin. Most of the time it will be reactivated about 8 seconds don’t know why… Stop it a second time. This time it should be ok. After uninstall it and reinstall the new version. It may be not removed correctly. In that case remove it : sudo rm -Rf /data/plugins/music_service/volspotconnect

Thanks very much - I’m not sure what version I have installed on my Pi 2 (whatever was available around 8 weeks ago).

Yes, if your system works fine, do nothing. There is no new features or sound improvement. Just fixes for some specific problem.
just a small hint
the plugin installation fails if you have changed the standard volumio login password
and you cannot change it back to volumio since this password is rejected as to simple 
With a fresh installation the plugin installation works just fine
