This is probably my issue as well

Dear Volumionauts,

Update on the earlier kernel issue:

The problem is not with the Raspberry Pi kernel or firmware re-base itself. The real cause is that custom modules updater is invoking the wrong compiler toolchain version - specifically arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc instead of the correct target. This mismatch leads to CRC version errors and symbol disagreement messages such as:

[Sat Oct 4 12:50:01 2025] snd_usb_audio: disagrees about version of symbol _printk
[Sat Oct 4 12:50:01 2025] snd_usb_audio: Unknown symbol _printk (err -22)

In short, the modules were built against a mismatched symbol CRC table, not a faulty kernel.

Will be fixed early next week.

Raspberry Pi 5 - Volumio 4.061 - USB Khadas Tone 2 Maker Kit working ok.
Bluetooth Remote Plugin - Tidal Plugin - Radio 357 plugin - 80s-80s Radio Plugin - Paradise Radio Plugin working ok.

My XMOS is also working with the 4.061 version. All good here, thanks.

Hello all Bookworm users!

I just want you to know that @nerd released a new Virtual Keyboard extension for Bookworm.
It just works! Just enable it in Touch Display plugin and you are ready to go.

Hi @nerd,
I have tried to build Bananapi M1 Volumio 4 image but encounter some issues. May i ask where can i post the issue and receive some guidance to fix them ?
Thank you

Hey @Hung_The,

The best place to collaborate on building of community ports will be in the GitHub repo directly for now.

Kind Regards,

Good morning!
quick question: Did I missed something?
Today I had checked the Volumio version and for update and system states “up to date”.
Some days ago 4.030 was offered which I didn’t install.
I’m on 4.025…

Thanks for any hint.
Warmest regards,
Ralf

Hey @rkorell,

Ruling out obvious - Update Channel Selection → Test, please share debug log URL here.

Kind Regards,

Dear @nerd ,
thanks for quick reply!
Haven’t considered this as a candidate for log
Update Channel selection IS on “test”.

Logfile just created: here.

Thanks a LOT!
Warmest regards,
Ralf

Hey @rkorell,

Thanks for providing the log and confirming you’re on 4.025 with Test channel selected. That helps narrow this down.

Summary

Your device is correctly configured for Beta updates and did initiate a check:

CoreCommandRouter::executeOnPlugin: updater_comm , getUpdateMessageCache

However, the process never completed, and we don’t see any follow-up logs such as:

  • [UPDATER] Found new update
  • or [UPDATER] No updates found

This suggests the updater either stalled or exited prematurely - likely due to interaction with other components.

Likely Interference: now_playing Plugin

Shortly after the update check begins, we see repeated API errors from the Now Playing plugin:

error: [now-playing] API endpoint weather/fetchInfo returned error: Error: Could not access weather service: missing geographic coordinates.

This plugin tries to fetch weather data but fails due to missing geolocation info. While not critical on its own, this kind of unhandled error may interfere with the UI thread or introduce timing issues into chained backend calls - especially if multiple services request plugin state concurrently.

Recommendation

Please try the following:

  1. Disable all user plugins, especially Now Playing.

  2. Reboot the system.

  3. After boot completes, go to Settings → System → Check for Updates manually.

  4. If still no update is offered, confirm whether this command returns anything:

    volumio updater force

If the update still doesn’t show after all that, share another set of logs, we can move on to manually clearing the update metadata and running a direct fetch.

Let us know how that goes - thanks again for helping test this thoroughly.

Kind Regards,

X Server is not starting

EDIT: fixed by installing intel drivers:
apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

Volumio Version 4.029
Device: WeTab Tablet → WeTab - Wikipedia
http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/xG2kLgy.html

Besides that, I am also on Test channel, however an update is not offered.
Tried to start with disabled plugins and manually force an update w/o success.

volumio@volumio:~$ volumio updater testmode
Test mode ENABLED

volumio@volumio:~$ volumio updater forceupdate
Checking for new Updates
No update available

@Hung_The @nerd
There is also the BananaPi M1 thread in the Community Portings sections, this one was created by the initiator of the Volumio 3 BananaPi M1 image (@Darmur).
To be used in case it is a BananaPi-specific issue.

Dear @nerd,
thanks for advice.
I’ve followed your instruction but no luck/success.
First I tried a simple reboot (hasn’t had any since a longer time) - no luck.
Than disabled all plugins and rebooted - no success - “no updates available” when checking in system menu.
Logfile after this here.

CLI shows exact same result:

Welcome to Volumio for Raspberry Pi (6.12.34-v8+ aarch64)
volumio@korellmusik:~$ volumio updater force
Error, please provide the required updater action: forceupdate | factory | userdata | testmode | cleanupdate | restorevolumio
volumio@korellmusik:~$ volumio updater forceupdate
Checking for new Updates
No update available
volumio@korellmusik:~$

Strange.
Between both checks (in GUI and on CLI) I’ve re-enabled the plugins but I cannot imagine that this makes a difference.

Warm regards,
Ralf

Hey @rkorell, @codevoid,

What an interesting development - especially since we now have two separate systems (yours and @codevoid’s) correctly set to Test channel, but both being told “No update available” even though 4.061 was released publicly a few days ago.

You’ve already taken the right steps:

  • Plugins disabled
  • Full system reboot
  • Both GUI and CLI update triggers tested
  • Output confirms correct test mode config

Yet despite this, the updater returns nothing - and there’s no sign of error or network failure in the logs either.

Searching for my “thinking head”…

Actively investigating the update server side to determine what constraints are being applied that would suppress a valid update.

Does anyone else face the same behavior?

Kind Regards,

@nerd Yes, I can confirm that behaviour on my Pi4.

I am doing some heavy testing to get HDMI 0 for video out only to my touchscreen while HDMI 1 goes to my sound bar with audio only or mirroring HDMI 0. While trying 4.029 and checking for update, I did not see the option to OTA update to 4.061. I have since downloaded 4.061 manually and have been flashing and testing with that on the Pi4.

Dear @nerd,
The update notification „disappeared“ …
I definitely have seen a notification and as well a „check version“ in system menu returned 4.061 some days ago.
I did not made any changes - so a server side issue is pretty possible…
Just my 2cents.
Warmest regards and many thanks for your effort!
Ralf

Dear Volumionauts,

What is Single Mode Network (SMN)?

Single Mode Network is a feature enabled by default in Volumio version 4.062 and later. It ensures only one network connection is active at a time - either ethernet or WiFi, but not both simultaneously.

How does it work?

When SMN is enabled:

  • Ethernet takes priority - if you plug in an ethernet cable, WiFi is automatically disabled
  • When you unplug ethernet, WiFi automatically activates
  • Your configured WiFi settings are preserved but won’t take effect while ethernet is connected
  • The hotspot fallback still works if you lose both connections

Why would I use it?

SMN prevents network conflicts and ensures stable connectivity by keeping only one interface active. This can improve reliability for network-dependent features.

Important notes:

  • Network switches happen automatically - you don’t need to do anything
  • If you configure WiFi while ethernet is connected, the WiFi settings save successfully but won’t activate until you unplug ethernet
