@gvida did you ever get yours working, I had same issue, then followed the newer install steps and I’m now back to the first issue you had of pygame window showing, it changes colors as its trying to rotate to random templates, biut never any bars and the music is 50/50 to play out the speaker or not, I’m about to use a new SD card and build a new Volumio install and see if its something with all the CLI level playing I did or not, but wanted to see if you ever found the issue?
do you use software volume mixer in volumio settings?
It doesn’t work in that case
Did you install rom the store?
no was set to hardware… I think my issue is I have been experimenting with the image from CLI and trrying to do some funky SSL stuff., I 've got a new SD card with Volumio installed just need to crack the case open to swap them out and do a nice clean install, expect it to go fine…
Dang, not working I get
[Error Failed to open “alsa” (alsa). Failed to open alsa device “volumio” no such device] when the plugin is enabled. wonder if its my DAC HAT causing issues, I tried unselecting it back to headphones and same, once I disble the PeppySpectum plugin it plays, when enabled I get failed start ASLA, this is a clean install of Volumio, with only the MD_OLED, Touch screen , now Playing and Peppyspectrum plugins installed… any thoughts on the DAC causing issues?
Disable Multiroom (Source), Mixer type: none or hardware (does not work with software). I currently have 5 installations and they all work (the latest beta version of Volumio on all)
do you have a HAT DAC installed on any?
Yes, PI2aes x2, Allo x1, external Dac x2
thanks that helps… I’ll keep digging, volumio is being a little wierd in general with this install, maybe a bad flash, … appreciate all the feedback
Thanks so much @Gelo5 … I finally tweakked and tweaked and got the windows to pop up but did not function, just the window. I’m going try a few more builds I remeber I had to flash the SD card several times to get the MD_OLED plugin to finally work. I really like this plugin and hope to get it working. I got this new Raspberry PI 4 just for volumio project. Oh I took the time to puill the DAC HAT just to rule it out, had same issue following the steps below.
- Made new SD card of Volumio
- installed in Raspberry PI 4
- logged into web page of Volumio and completed setup wizard.
- installed Tounch screen Plugin (enabled)
- Installed Now playing Plugin (enabled)
- ensured Multiroom (Source) was disabled.
- Mixer type: Hardware and set general playback options as pointed out.
- turned on Test Plugins on the Dev page
- installed the peppyspectrum plugin (ver 0.13) from the volumio plugin list (enabled)
10 rebooted the Raspberry Pi - waited for fully boot up
12 tried to play song from library (source is USB drive) - get “Error Failed to open “alsa” (alsa). Failed to open alsa device “volumio” no such device”
14 on a lark installed FusionDSP plugin and enabled and no longer get the error in step 13, and got the window to pop and it would change colors every X minutes, and song time bar was moving (no audio). - Turned off PeppySpectrum plugin and got sound out the headphone jack.
I’m sure I’m missing something minor here. but I’m determined to figure it out
Oh I did notice at one point my song would play for about 10 sec then auto skip tio the next song, this was happening over and over which makes me think its something with the volumio image, seems sometimes it takes 2-3 flashes to get a stable one…
yes from the store
don’t know what balbuze already could fix,
but with FusionDSP plugin will this not work next to it read this post of balBuze creator of peppySpectrum:
How to run PeppySpectrum correctly?
If you are doing it on a clean install
1.Install Peppyspectrum from the plugin store (now ver. 0.13)
2.Restart the system
3.Go to: Sources and turn Multiroom Playback (OFF)
4.If you have a HAT (DAC or sound card) installed:
- go to Playback Options—> General Playback Options and set:
- I also have it set like this:
Known issue: doesn’t work when Mixer is set to software!
- Volume Options:
You will have 2 options to choose from (99%): None or software
Set to NONE
5.If you are using an external DAC, you will have 3 options (None, Software or Hardware)
- set to NONE or Hardware (allows you to control the volume)
6.Now go to plugins and launch Peppyspectrum —> Settings
- Spectrum Folder —> set your spectrum and press APPLY
7.Select Spectrum - select spectrum type and press APPLY
Done
I don’t know how it can’t work? On my 5 different installations (RPi) - it works.
I think I found the issue.
libpeppyalsa is not properly installed…
It works if peppymeter was installed first…
can you confirm @Gelo5 ?
Probably (maybe) you are right. I always installed Peppymeter and then Peppyspectrum. This could be it.
cool, I’m doing a clean install now, I’ll install PeppyMeter first… you guys are awesome, appreciate all the support.
Just remember that when you play Peppyspectrum - turn off Peppymeter (and conversely).
update, messed with it for couple hours now, trying this and that. and had a mix of issues, either the ASLA error or it would cuase the songs to play 4-5 sec then skip to next song… I unstalled the store version and went old school back to ver .01 CLI install and its working great…
seems the link in the threads to ver .08 peppyspectrum.zip will not install from the CLI, I was able to unstalled ver .01 back on. Where can I get others versions to try, I’d like to take advantage of the Templates
