I have been trying to figure out how to best use my USB disk containing my music so that it works reliably. Often the disk is not detected and the scan process is not started by Volumio. On USB3 the disk is detected most of the time, on USB2 it is rarely detected (no it does not seem to be a power issue).
The two disks in question are a Seagate ST4000LM024 (asm1153e) and a Crucial x6 4TB (Phison U17). They both show the issue described above.
I have found that if I SSH into Volumio with the disk connected and I issue lsusb -t, the disk is immediately recognized and the scan process begins. This works with both the Seagate and the Crucial.
