I got the update notification today and went ahead & did the install. Following this I now have an RPi which no longer boots. I’ve tried a number of hard resets but my touchscreen is blank and the device does not appear on the Volumio app.
That sounds similar to my experience. I was running v3.785 on my RPi5 (no DAC), and it told me an update was available. I hit the update icon, and it started - but never completed. I did two reboot/try again cycles, but it still wouldn’t work.
So I removed the SD card and flashed it with v3.795. At the moment it’s scanning my NAS, but it seems to be OK.
Definitely an issue here which Volumio is not addressing. I tried the same with another RPi set up and got the same results. Again, the only fix was a new flash to the SD card.
It’s understandable that encountering boot issues after an update can be frustrating. However, Volumio is an open-source project, meaning contributions and fixes rely on community involvement.
If you’ve identified a consistent issue across multiple devices, the best course of action is to investigate and report findings constructively. Anyone can contribute to debugging and resolving issues by working with the source code here:
If direct contributions aren’t feasible, patience is key while the development team and community work on improvements. Providing detailed logs and steps to reproduce the issue can also help in addressing the problem more efficiently.
Thanks @nerd, my case is quite straightforward. It’s an RPi5 4Gb with absolutely nothing else but Volumio on an SD card. No plugins, no extra hardware, nothing.
