I don’t think it’s a RPI or even a Volumio-specific issue, but a Tidal Connect issue instead as I’ve read about similar errors on other 3rd party streaming platforms.
Hopefully the Volumio team will shed more light into this soon.

I recently restarted my Premium subscription to test out Tidal connect again. Just wanted to share my experience running v3.742 on RP4 with Allo Digi One coax output.
So far so good! I’ve had no ALSA error messages and everything has worked as expected. Skipping between tracks seems to be more stable. I’m not one for skipping that much but no issues yet. Searching / scrubbing within the track seems to be working OK too.
Just chiming in here, I have the exact same issue as this post. Have 3.742 and completely lost ability to cast from Tidal on Android to Volumio. No devices show. Works fine using web browser Tidal. This worked fine pre update (albeit with a few restarts required here and there). Its my only use case for Volumio so I’m desperate for a fix…
Hi, and welcome to the community. A couple of questions:
Are you using a dual band router or access point? If so, check out if you have both systems (phone and Volumio) on the same Ghz frequency band, or that the router/ap is unifying them.
Then, are you refreshing the Tidal app? it happens that no Tidal Connect devices appear on the first attempt to use it from the Tidal app, but cancelling the action and touching/clicking on the speaker (cast or connect) icon again refreshes it and discovers new endpoints.
Just tested on a rPi4 with Volumio V3.742 and Tidal V2.129.0 on Galaxy android 13.
Tidal connect is working without issues. Difficult to narrow it down.
Can confirm, almost no issues for the past couple of weeks now. So far, so good.
try skipping to the next song about 4-5 times
Like this, rPi5???
Same on the Motivo, CM4:
why would I want to do that… it’s working
you’re lucky (and a dare devil) haha. Is that Android?
Does that mean the tidal connect issues are fixed?
As previously mentioned it can happen any time but isn’t repeatable - even during normal playback not seeking tracks. Just not reliable and others have had this issue I’m sure.
I’d like to think the Volumio devices like the Motivo are more stable, maybe you could send me one to test
(not related but the Pi4 with touch screen is very sensitive to touching/bumping any cables and can disconnect/reconnect DAC by looking at it almost. Just the nature of DIY I guess but seems pretty flimsy).
I can’t send you a Motivo, I am just a forum moderator and tester for Volumio as I like their products and dedicated team
Make sure that every connection on your rPi4 is solid, especially those on the GPIO. For that reason I have put a metal cover to the back. This one is rock solid and used for testing.
On the tidal connect, the skipping was an issue reported a year ago, if I recall correctly and was improved shortly after. Tidal connect is more sensitive if you keep skipping while the track hasn’t loaded (due to slow connection or…).
I am not saying that you don’t have an issue, but I can’t reproduce it. And yes I hit it like crazy.
Jesus just checked the price of them, A$3100. So I wasn’t really serious but had no idea they were that much! Looks like a nice piece of kit, the form factor would be an acquired taste. I would be nice if you could stand it up the other way like the Pi display.
That a solid looking case, I really wish the Pi cases were better but can’t do much with them. Maybe i need to clamp the terminals a bit more, doesn’t matter which cable i touch seems to upset it, not sure if i can improve it. Just get a all these messages going off…
Ok will see how i go with Tidal, up and running again with different network setup. The main thing is it is intermittent but great when all works obviously and don’t have any such issues playing my own FLAC.
Cheers
This looks indeed like poor connections, or power issues. As your connected device holding music comes up when Volumio has started. Same for your DAC. That’s the reason you see the “Restarted” messages.
The Motivo is worth it’s money. I was pretty sure My custom build gear would measure up with the Motivo. Well I was wrong…
The Motivo won on every aspect. SO yes very happy to have one. And this is my personal opinion.
Yeah I accidentally unplugged the USB to the m.2 at the same time when I was jiggling the cables.
No doubt it would sound great, but would be pretty hard to justify that price unless it’s got a DAC and AMP, even the screen is pretty debatable whether you need it at all if it’s still small when sitting across the room. Most people would use their phone as a remote and or PC tab. I was lucky I could plug a keyboard into the pi as well, saved me some grief.
PS. Yes I’ve got separate power to the screen and the pi as recommended.
Yeah was listening contently without touching anything for about half an hour or more, the first time I hit next track it fks up. Volumio appears to be playing but the progress bar stays where it is and the DAC is blank and obviously no sound. Have to reboot after that.
Router used to work no problem so can’t think it’s a dual band issue. Still not getting any cast function. In previous versions you would get device lost to update after a few refreshes but I’ve had absolutely zero option ever since the new version. Both tidal and volumio had many many restarts and nothing.
Hi. Have you tried logging out of your MyVolumio account, restarting the Pi, then logging back in and waiting until the player refreshes and Tidal is available in your sources?
Other than that, maybe a reinstall helps? I haven’t run into this issue in any of my systems - I did have a hiccup due to the router / dual band network situation several versions ago, though.
Hi. Instead of rebooting, try stopping playback and switching your output device. This will force-restart the player; then switch back to your preferred output setting (resetting the player again), and play Tidal again. This works for me, and is much quicker.
Also, FWIW, no issues yet while changing tracks between albums or playlists from Tidal Connect so far. It seems to be much, much more stable.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Just logging out and rebooting now. I even took out the SD card to sus it out (32GB Sandisk seems fine). Wondering if I should change the USB cable to the DAC. Although it’s only a Tidal Connect problem. Wouldn’t mind a more stable system, the Pi is a fantistic DIY piece of kit but can’t help but think a brand name streamer would have less issues (wiim pro plus or something).
