Spotify plugin not working with account

Hello all,

I have been using the Spotify plugin on the latest version of Volumio on a Raspberry Pi for a few months. I have always had issues that required me to reboot the device regularly for playback to work. Recently, playback has completely stopped working. This is using a Spotify premium account. I have tried logging out of Spotify and reauthorizing in Volumio. Web radio services work fine, it is only a Spotify issue which is the only service we use.

Does anyone have any ideas before I switch to a different platform?

Edit: Including more information on my system/device:

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2 - SD Card
System Version: 3.886
Spotify Plugin Version: 4.3.0

It will help others to help you if you provide detailed information. Especially system logs and the actual version numbers of your Volumio system and the Spotify plugin you are using. Please check this guide and bear in mind that people are busy with the holidays.

Yes, sorry about that. Hopefully, the information below will help.

I found this in my log, but I am not sure what it means:

level=error msg=“failed handling request play” error=“failed loading context: failed loading current track (load context): failed creating stream for spotify:track: failed retrieving audio key: failed retrieving aes key with code 1”

music volumio[1274]: error: Failed to send command to Spotify local API: /player/play: Error: Internal Server Error

You could try Spotify version 4.3.4 available in the Beta test channel, both for Volumio 3 (buster) and Volumio 4 (Bookworm).

To get the test version, go to http://yourvolumioip/dev and find ‘Plugins Test Mode’ and click ‘True’.

You can then update the plugin to 4.3.4 via the usual Plugins menu.

Thanks for your reply!

I did a fresh install of Volumio and am now on version: 4.073

Spotify still did not play.

I then downloaded the beta version of the Spotify plugin version: 4.3.4

I am still receiving the same error message:

level=error msg=“failed handling request play” error=“failed loading context: failed loading current track (load context): failed creating stream for spotify:track:[track]: failed retrieving audio key: failed retrieving aes key with code 1”
error: Failed to send command to Spotify local API: /player/play: Error: Internal Server Error

Exact the same issue here. Able to browse Spotify, but unable to play. Same error message in my Volumio log.

Are You using any VPN service?

Nope. I brought the Volumio device to another location to test and it is doing the exact same thing there.

I’m a happy Tidal hi-fi user but got a free 4 month’s to Spotify premium so thought I would try out out, now they they finally have lossless lol.

I happened to get the volumio email at the same time featuring this ha. Hopefully it works for you, I’ll test it out too!

@TrendyGuy I just installed the Spotify beta plugin 4.3.4 and it’s work well playing from the PC windows app (touch wood) :grinning:

Update:
Just tried another Spotify account (Family Premium) and I was able to play Spotify songs again over my Volumio device. The problem is related to the account (Premium Individual).
