Randomizer Not Drawing From Full Library

I’ve noticed that the Randomizer plugin only works with folders whose files have track numbers (like an album). These are player piano albums so they do not show up at MusicBrainz.org

None of the songs in my folders organized by Composer are selected. The folders in question have the AlbumArtist set identically to the folder name (the composer). These songs show up in the “Artist” category in the Music selection menu.

Is this behavior by design? Do I need to add track numbers in all folders for them to be selected by the Randomizer plugin?

There is a specific thread for the Randomizer plugin.

I encountered and re-read that page and attempted related searches to find nothing regarding what library entries are included/requirements for inclusion.

It is better to post issues with plugins in the dedicated thread for that plugin, since both the creator of the plugin or other users of it is more likely to notice your question/issue.

Will try a post there. I was looking for a broader range of users.

It’s certainly not by design, I wasn’t aware of the limitation. The plugin uses the volumio Websocket api ‘browse music library’.

If it is as you report then it would seem that track numbers are required.

Time to investigate my own music library me thinks!

@Old_Duffer

I’ve added track numbers to all of the folders used on Volumio. A very few folders have 1,000+titles with one approaching 3,000.

It seems so slow and unresponsive to index that I re-flashed Volumio. It has been indexing for hours on a Raspberry 5 with max memory. The green “drive indicator” on the Volumio indicates activity.

I’ve yet to complete my automated production of the Volumio drive from my library. This is an intermediate state to get an idea as I also added cover art for each folder (all 300x300 pixel .jpg files).

Decided to load just a portion of my library to work in stages. I was about to loose it when I though, “I better make sure the cable between the SSD and the Raspberry is good.” It had failed and I was going crazy trying to “find” the drive!

Anyhow, a representative group of about 60 folders and 3,000 songs with a folder full of album sub-folders, a folder full of composer sub-folders and a folder of “collections.”

All indexed fully and the Randomizer plugin selects from all regardless of the presence of album numbers.

I finally understood just how basic the art as metadata. Just a single file named “folder.jpg” for each folder even if said folder is a parent with only sub-folders.
