Project with PeppyMeter/PeppySpectrum Screensaver Plugin for VOLUMIO

Possible. Do you have Needle Cache turned off?

Hi @dewen,
that looks not so good. Can you please try the custom-7 1920x1080 black-white-spectrum to compare. It has also big spectrum bars. How this looks?

Don’t change anything, spotify skips tracks

I tried to use 3.5 output and listening in earphones it seems that tracks are free of clicks and no skips (using you peppyalsa mod file slave pcm peppyalsa)

Your solution is Ok i need to stop spotify music and than select and play music from Nas.

At least if i select hdmi source and listen through the speakers (very poor qualjty and details) of my 11.9 waveshare display no clicks and skips are performed.

So your peppyalsa mod resolve the clicks issue but generate continuously skips in spotify tracks and so it’s unusable.

Hi @2aCD ,

I’ve been playing Spotify on SMSL C100 for over 24 hours now on my Pi5 without any issue. This afternoon, I installed a fresh Volumio and all the plugins onto Pi4 with new Spectrum & Meter Skins from @Gelo5 and it plays beautifully. I try both also configurations and they both work just fine. I don’t see any lagging either.

Here are my configuration:

HW: Raspberry Pi 4 - 8 GB, SMSL C100 dac, 160GB SSD as a boot drive.

SW: Volumio v3.666 (from @nerd ), Touch Display plugin 3.4.0, PeppyMeter Plugin v2.0.0, Spotify Plugin v4.0.4

Dear @naimnatnod Andy, thank you for your contribution to my problem. Now, definetively, I really don’t know what to do…
Just to clarify, what type of USB cables did you use to connect RIp4 with SMSL and what type of power supply for RIP4 and SMSL (separate power supply with splitter) or just one, what type?
I really don’t know where to start…

From my pov you can try with a different rpi or maybe in parallel to use tidal , until you find the root cause of your issue .

With the next version you can explicit disable Spotify for the screen saver. This solves not your problem but you have a clean audio pipe for Spotify and can use PeppyMeters for other sources.
In addition I have add a GUI-switch to enable/disable the pcm-copy command in the alsa template.
In some circumstances this command is needed (Spotify stops after 10 sec) in some others not (click sound).

Another idea.
Is it possible you have a slow internet connection?
Please use Ethernet, disable wifi.

@Roberto_Grieco did you check if it’s available a firmware update for your USB DAC?

hi Falk !
My internet connection is good, i use video streaming services hd without problems and i use ethernet , no wifi …

on smsl site there’is nothin but i write them.thank’s

For custom-7 1920x1080 :
Pi 4 performance is the same as Pi 5 except black-white-spectrum, black-blue-spectrum, emerald-spectrum, but it is nearly full speed so difficult to find.

For Gelo5 Spec&Met-720 1920x1080 :
skin that slow down :
120G5_OldPipe Spectrum ( at the last one list, most obvious )
115G5_Neon Disco Spectrum ( less obvious )
112G5_Kenwood Spectrum

I also made a comparesion

I tried choose single skin with both Needle Cache on and off, all the same result. Also tried many combination ( adjust GPU memory, audio buffer size, mouse on off…etc ). but seems not change much the speed.

I install the Volumio on Pi5, and use the same micro-SD card on Pi4, maybe it’s the cause for skin slow down ? I will try flash a new card and install volumio for Pi 4 to see if the same result.

Screen and Touch Display plugin makes DAC unhappy - Help and Support - Volumio Community

rotate screen will take a lot of “source” and may cause problem,
have you tried remove the rotate command, let the screen use it’s native “vertical” view, and test if any skip track ( though the peppymeter size will be cut )

Have you tried set Touch Display GPU memory to 128mb and rotate the screen using Touch Display Setting instead of display_rotate=1 command ?

Hi @dewen , my computer skills are so poor…
first of all my waveshare 11.9 screen is an IPS LCD panel and not amoled, so I don’t know if the thread applies to me too.
However, I read 2@acd’s instructions in the post but starting from the point where he says to run chmod… I go haywire, I don’t know how to do it and I get stuck… I need step by step instructions for those who don’t knows linux to try.

[quote=“2aCD, post:1, topic:64547”]
to install the files you can use the install_amoled.sh:

  • expand the folder and copy it to /home/volumio
  • make the install_amoled.sh executable
chmod +x /home/volumio/Install_amoled_EDID/install_amoled.sh
or
chmod +x /home/volumio/Install_amoled_noEDID/install_amoled.sh
  • start the installation

NEW PEPPYMETER SCREENSAVER V2 - 20 STYLISH SKIN DEMO

The file is for amoled 1920x1080, so not work for you.

You can try first not to rotate your screen ( remove the display_rotate=1 command ), and to use the vertical view, because it’s the hardware native resolution, so it will not take a lot of resource to rotate screen, and you can now test if the DAC works normal. If yes, then it’s the problem and could be fixed by other rotate method. ( rotate by Touch Display plugin or @2aCD dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-256 and rotate .sh command )

Very nice demo, now it’s time for 1920x1080 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
