[PLUGIN] Touch Display

Hi Guys, tnx for the reples

  • Yes it also happens with a new/different SD Card.

  • Yes it also happens with 3.569 after that I tried the new version if that would fix it.

  • I will run a disk check om my nas, but it also happens when I don’t mount it trough NAS but straight trough a connnected USB drive.
    I will reinstall and then connect the USB en then maybe see what the log file says

  • I see that indeed, can that mean that it cant find an album? Or maybe something wrong with an album.

Difficult to say. I know that MPD has problems dealing with broken/damaged files.
You’re log show a lot of them.
What happens if you only use Webradio or Spotify or Qobuz?

Seems crashing of Touch display is the result, but for sure not the root cause.

That would also be my guess.

+1 on trying other audio sources.

I did a reinstall and had only Radio Paradise for a few hours, then loaded the NAS again but without the Webart function enabled, so far it is still performing good.

I’m using RPi 3B+
Installed Touch Screen Plugin and connected 3.5" Touch Screen display via GPIO.

Screen shows white, tried different methods in other threads but still not working. Please help.

Please provide brand and exact model name of the display.

BTW: I just saw that your post has been merged from the thread Help in setting up u3.5” LCD with Volumio 2. Do you still use Volumio 2 or was it a typo?

@gvolt much thanks for replying.
I’m using latest Volumio 3.569

I’m unable to find the model number. Here is the display pic,

Where did you buy the display? Do you possibly have a link?

Did you receive some kind of documentation with the display?

I brought it from AliExpress. Let me see if I can get some documentation.

This is the closest one I can find.

Specifications:-

  • Resolution - 320 x 480 Pixel
  • Touch Screen Type - Resistive
  • Colors - 65536
  • Backlight - LED
  • LCD Type - TFT
  • LCD Interface - SPI
  • Aspect Ratio - 8:5
  • Touch Screen Controller - XPT2046

The display was working with Raspberry and I used LCD-Show. But it was long back and I don’t remember which driver I was using then.

I recommend to start with a fresh Volumio system.

Then don’t use LCD-show respectively the LCD35-show script but proceed as follows:

  1. Install the Touch Display plugin.

  2. Execute

    sudo apt-get -y install xserver-xorg-video-fbturbo

    sudo apt-get -y install xserver-xorg-input-evdev

    sudo cp /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/45-evdev.conf

    sudo curl -L https://github.com/waveshare/LCD-show/raw/master/waveshare35a-overlay.dtb -o /boot/overlays/waveshare35a.dtbo

    sudo curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/waveshare/LCD-show/master/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf-35 -o /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf

    sudo curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/waveshare/LCD-show/master/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-fbturbo.conf -o /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-fbturbo.conf

    cat >> /boot/userconfig.txt <<EOL

    dtparam=spi=on
    dtoverlay=waveshare35a
    EOL

  3. Reboot.

  4. If the display should not have the orientation you are looking for, add a rotation parameter to the overlay in “/boot/userconfig.txt” so it looks something like this:

    dtoverlay=waveshare35a:rotate=90

    This would rotate the display (not touch) by 90 degrees clockwise.

  5. Reboot once again.

In my Waveshare ratiation is changed by command :
rotate=1 if 90 degrees
rotate=2 if 180
rotate=3 if 270

For the “waveshare35a” overlay my previous post is referring to the rotation values to be set via “7boot/config.txt” or “/boot/userconfig.txt” are 0, 90, 180 and 270. :wink:

@gvolt I tried your steps and it still shows white screen.

Please post the result of

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

I guess this was the manual i tried few months back for RPi,
http://www.lcdwiki.com/3.5inch_RPi_Display

Please post the output of

ls -al /dev/fb*

I reinstalled volumio again and now this time it too too much time to install touch plugin not sure why. And then followed your steps, after reboot i can see the display. :heart_eyes:
Thanks a ton. You’re awesome!

It seems I’m unable to scroll, I can click though.
And now there is no audio output :slight_smile: and super sluggish performance. Not sure if that’s due to the touch plugin installation.
