My Volumio MusicBox

My first Volumio streamer is the third version of this project, but the first to use Volumio rather than windows on a laptop motherboard & battery (and I’ve repurposed a V2 box, hence it looking a little beaten up) This one uses a Lenovo M73 mini PC motherboard, a Khadas Tone 1 DAC, a Netgear Ethernet/Wi-Fi bridge (as previous testing with Volumio & wireless was NOT AT ALL satisfactory)…and a 3-bottle wine crate, with everything else basically from AliExpress. As this one lives in a cupboard with the tablecloths, it needed an external screen, but the next version won’t get to hide all its imperfections in the dark, and a 7.9 WaveSHre Panel is enroute for it…

‘On’ is via a 'wifi / alexa integrated plug socket, with the BIOS configured to turn the machine on when it detects power, and I’ve turned on the hard-drive spin-up wait-time feature which clearly isn’t necessary for the SSD, but allows the wifi bridge to intialise & connect before volumio boots.

All the content is on the NAS, and ive got Volumio to run an update on the music library as it starts up. My local FLAC library plus the spotify plugin makes for a pretty good time, and I’m hoping that - at some point??? who the hell knows… - when Spotify releases their high-def tier, this set-up will be able to do at least CD-quality Spotify streaming justice.

Looks very nice, well done

Question, how did you manage to get the NAS connected via Volumio ? I’ve never succeeded in that.

And how did you get Volumio to run an update on the music library as it starts up?

Hello Henrik

This post for auto update - which sort of works: i find the music library never ever gets all of the updates in one go but over a couple of reboots will finally get the hint about all the changes, and connecting to the NAS is easy through the sources gui - i just stuck in the local IP and share name, then the creds to use for connection when it prompted me.

Cheers
