Is Denafrips Terminator (1st type) USB compatible

I have just bought a second hand Volumio Primo (HI-FI old and first model, I think). As for outputs it only shows me two options: RCA analogue output and SPDIF (coaxial) digital output. The problem is that I would like to use one of the 4 USB ports to go to my Denafrips Terminator, which has, of course, a USB input. Why am not able to do that? I cannot see on the Volumio Primo the option to use the USB output, but only (as I said) either the RCA or the Coax. Can anyone help me? Thanks

But is there no sound if you connect it that way? I’m asking because I have a Motivo that has a selection of outputs but USB is not listed. Should work anyway but to tell you the truth I’ve never tried it. Going to check what happens that way and I’ll let you know.

EDIT: Just tried it and it works just fine. The USB out option only shows up if the cable is plugged in at both ends.

Thanks. Of course the cable is plugged on both sides and to be double sure I have taken off the Coax, but no sign of recognition

But which dac do you have ? Is that a Denafrips?

Hi! No, it’s a Holo Audio. But correct me if I’m wrong, the issue you have is that you don’t get the USB output option on the Volumio output setup? Mine took a few seconds, maybe 10, to show up after plugging it in. It had never showed up on the menu before and it’s not showing up anymore now that it’s unplugged and back to I2S. So I’m assuming Volumio will fetch something in that situation. Cycle and save through the other outputs too, I did that and I’m not sure if it has anything to do with it. It was after taking it from I2S to SPDIF and back that USB popped up. There’s this thread here that seems to indicate some issue related to this: How to load USB DAC driver - Help and Support / Help - Volumio Community

Full discloser, I only use the Motivo as a transport and Roon is controlling everything, so maybe that’s also a factor.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that USB is not in the options by default and seems to take some active doing for it to pop up.
