Introducing CORRD: A New Way to Discover Music, from Volumio with love

Hey everyone,

We’re excited to finally share something we’ve been working on behind the scenes: CORRD. Some of you might already have heard of it, but we kept it a little bit hidden until we were proud enough of the result to show it to you.

It all started from a realization of mine: I was not discovering any new music. Despite having at least 5 streaming accounts and having practically all the music ever produced available at 1 fingertip away, I realized that the last truly remarkable music discoveries I made were from years ago.

So I dug deeper, to realize that one of the main causes is the fact that we rely on recommendation algorithms to provide us with new stuff. But these recommendations usually felt stale: just more of the same without any new exploration.

Then I realized there was no way to tell such algorithms HOW I wanted them to behave; they were essentially black boxes.

To my surprise, during the past year, I received the same feedback from the hundreds of music lovers I spoke with.

Hence the idea of CORRD. I wanted to create something that:

  • Was as intuitive and quick as possible. 1 click away from cool music.
  • Was actually bringing me out of the repetition of similar stuff.
  • I could actively influence, merging passive listening with active choices.

And this is how CORRD was born.

CORRD IS:

  • An app designed to provide fresh music discoveries
  • Designed around the idea of providing soundtracks for the moments in your day: Gym, Relaxing, Cooking, Driving. Mixing for you new music which fits into your moments.
  • The first app that allows you to fine tune how the recommendation algorithm works. Do you want underground or mainstream artists? Sad or happy tunes? You can even write what you want to hear and CORRD will provide new and cool music that matches what you want.
  • A playback engine which respects your music’s quality, especially when sending audio to Volumio. Coming from us it could not have been otherwise.

CORRD IS NOT:

  • The music player apps you’re used to. It does not allow (for now) you to browse or search. But somehow forces you into a discovery path.
  • A playlist generator. It does not require you to transfer playlists to another app to play them. You can play directly from CORRD.
  • A music nerd product. We wanted it to be accessible even to the least tech savvy.

Before you ask: we’ve built CORRD as a new technological platform that Volumio will also take advantage of, to fulfill our mission of delivering outstanding musical experiences, even when out of home.

So, all the development that we put on CORRD will very soon be available to Volumio.

And the best part is that they are designed to work together. CORRD is a mobile app designed to play your music wherever you are: headphones, car, bluetooth etc. But when at home, it can discover and play to Volumio devices in bit perfect quality.

And this is where you come into the picture, dear community. What you see today is the result of months of hard work from the Volumio team. But we know this is just the initial spark.

To make it evolve into something meaningful for all music lovers we need you to jump on it and co create the future of it together.

Use it, abuse it, ask us questions, tell us what you would like to see different. We’re all ears.

To say thanks to you for being part of the family, all Volumio users (free and premium) have a discount to use CORRD valid until July 31st.

We hope CORRD will bring you joy and new music you didn’t know you loved.

Check it out here

We can’t wait to hear what you think.

All the sudden Corrd makes sense to me

one bug found.
Iphone 15, IOS 18.5

I am using Corrd to connect to one of my Volumio devices, however when Corrd is not on the foreground, the music stops after finishing one track. This issue happens very intermitted. 8 of the 10 it stops, occasionally it plays along.

not all recommendations make sense to my music taste yet and i am very interested on how to tune that to my taste

is it intended to fulfill also my wife’s taste without having an extra account ?

Hey, just downloaded the app. Not much to say so far.
Do I get it right that currently it is not possible to stream to my Volumio OS running on a RPi?
My CORRD app does not find it in the playback sources.

Only if it runs Buster (See my 2nd screenshot), not Bookworm.

Thanks for the response.
That’s actually weir. Does it make any sense to have this on older version but not on the newer one?
Are there any updates planned to handle this situation?

The Bookworm version is still beta, so not weird. BW will also get this functionality. No ETA yet.

Yes you can, both for Buster and Bookworm. If you don’t see your Volumio device make sure:

  • You granted the app the rights to scan your network when asked
  • You are in the same network as your Volumio device

Hello ,
I do not understand why the payment appear after I log in and after I gave access to my Qobuz account ?
I guess it will be ethical that people know from the beginning that this is a payd service before giving access to all streaming accounts …
Thanks

Thanks for letting me know.

  • I’m sure the devices are in the same network.
  • I was never asked about any permissions on the app start.

Is it possible to somehow force this permission from the app?
I haven’t found the setting on Android yet.

Sorry, my bad. I might have given you incorrect information. We are investigating as we speak, but it appears that on Bookworm we have a regression which prevents CORRD from finding volumio devices.

If you’re interested in trying CORRD it’s advised to use the current stable (buster) Volumio version until we identify and fix this.

Thanks for your feedback. We designed the flow this way because not everyone has a compatible streaming account. So imagine you subscribe to CORRD and then you find out that you can’t use it because you don’t have a suitable account with streaming services…

I would like to trail this app. Is that possible?

Ok, I got it. Thanks!
I’m not quite confident in Volumio versions but my Volumio OS gets updated automatically, so I assume I have the latest stable release (at least that’s normally the case).

This is my current version as shown from the app.

Are you a volumio user?

Of course I am, lifetime as a matter of fact.

This reminds me of LastFM and the good old ‘what are you listening to at the moment’ threads on headphones forums.
The algorithm sounds interesting.

Ah it’s a 50% discount, not a free trial…
I think Premium/Lifetime members should be allowed to test it for a month for free.

The native Tidal app is all I really use
(and sometimes YouTube / YouTube music, SoundCloud good for mixes pretty low quality).
