I almost had same kind of issue with Daphile based also on Linux, on Apollo Lake J4205, but current version with kernel 4.9.30 is now working well .
I have also Ubuntu studio 17.04 running well. So I will try a live DVD of Debian 9.0.1.
@AudioMGR my asrock j4205 run Daphile 17.05 64bit, and Ubuntu 17.04 from the same usb drive perfectly fine.
Maybe a kernel > 4.9 would do the trick
I have try Debian 9.0.1 iso on USB key on my J4205. Need to boot in compatibility mode (iso not UEFI). Boot is quick, and Debian seems to work perfectly.
I donāt spent long time, but I play audio files without any problem.
So Debian 9.0.1 run on Apollo lake. I donāt know which Debian version use Volumio.
Hi everyone, gkkpch, Michele79,
My tests with Daphile, Debian 9.0.1, with kernel 4.9.30, seem confirm that this kernel fixes issue with Apollo Lake. Ubuntu Studio 17.04 , with 4.10 kernel, runs well also. So need to upgrade Volumio kernel to 4.9 or better for Apollo Lake. According Asrock, this MB should run with Ubuntu 16.10 and Fedora 25, but I donāt think so.
So, kernel 4.9 may fix the issues we are seeing on the Udoo x86 as well? These SBCs has Braswell processors.
Thanks AudioMGR, great update!
Soā¦well we know what should be done, letās be patient and let Volumio guys update
when they could!
Cheers
good to know, hopefully I find time this weekend to build a test image, kernel has already been done.
Hi - any updates on this? I can build it and test it if the kernel is already on github repo.
If you can build, I will put the kernel on my repo tonight. Iāll PM you in a minute with the little change you have to make in the x86image.sh script in order to pick up kernel version 4.9
Sorry it took so long, been busy fixing other issues.
One other thing, the new build script is based upon a change we made for future kernel updates, I hope is does not disturb your tests, Iām not quite finished with it.

Please refer to your PM, the repo has been updated.
Could you please try this x86 image, it is based on 4.9.29 LTS.
In case the result is not good I would also try 4.9.30, but my preference is the LTS version, so check this first.
Areas of interest: Intel e1000 driver support, sata/pcie and m.2 ssdās
Unfortunately, I do not own any devices with these components so I have to rely on you testing it, thanks!

Btw: this is not a commitment yet, that we will support 4.9.29 (or 4.9.30)
It has not been decided yet, it all depends on how stable the Volumio version will be with it.

Hi,
I am not at this time able to test this image. I will do next week. But link is not working. Please check ans sens new release to test Appolo compatibilitƩ
Thanks
Hello all,
I have a Udoo x86 and testing the official Volumio 2 x86 updated to 2.246 on a USB 3.0. My feedback is the following
Hello gkkpch,
I have try your release shortly yesterday on my J4205. Seems to works. But no UI on volumio server display, boot stops at āvolumio login:ā. But html UI was ok.
After configuring, html UI or MDP client was usable. I tested some audio files from 44k to 96k with succes. So except no UI on PC display, this image seems so solve Appolo issue.

Hi,
thank you very much for your feedback, would you be able to send us a log?
You need to go to the dev page (-your-ip-/dev) and use the upload function.
Perhaps it gives us a clue, why the graphics part fails.

I donāt know if this will help you.

Bug_release_J4205.7z (23.4 KB)
Iām working on a new (yet experimental) image for x86 using kernel 4.12.8
With a bit of luck (it appears backward compatible so far) we can support a few newer devices with it.
Would you volunteer to test?
Hi gkkpch,
Itās a big step. You go directly to the very new kernel. Why not. I could spend some time to test it on my J4205 MB that is not yet compatible with current Volumio releaseā¦
Michel
Yes, I realise it is a big step but as we only need limited functionality, chances are the necessary things will work for us.
You can download the 4.12.8 based image version here.
As soon as there is first positive feedback I will make an experimental version which will be downloadable from the volumio server.
(Canāt build one there just now because of other activities)
