[Bug] Streamer stops playing and the volumio app then loses the volume control

I am using the latest version of the volumio OS with a HIFI-Edition Primo streamer. The streamer may all of sudden stop playing without any user interference and then when you resume playing, the volume control in the app has disappeared, so that you cannot control the sound volume from your phone. I need to forcibly shut down the volumio app via the Android interface and the start it again in order to get the volume control back. Slightly annoying.

Hey @mortenbo,

Your post title contains “[Bug]” - who verified this as a bug and where is the GitHub issue link? Calling something a bug requires verification through proper testing and pattern confirmation across multiple users. A single observation is a report, not a confirmed bug.

There is no Volumio OS version called “latest” and there never will be. Exact version numbers are required for any investigation - example format: 3.874 or 4.080.

As a Primo “HIFI Edition(?)” owner, you are eligible for direct one-on-one support from Volumio. Contact support@volumio.org for personalized assistance with your device.

If you prefer community troubleshooting, we need the following before any investigation can proceed:

  • Exact Volumio version number from Settings > System Information
  • Log link from http://volumio.local/dev (or your Primo’s IP address)
  • What music source was playing when playback stopped (TIDAL, Qobuz, local files, radio, etc.)
  • Android phone model and Android version
  • Android app version from Play Store
  • Does the problem occur when controlling Primo via web browser instead of the app?

Note: There is an existing thread about Android app volume control misbehavior that may be related to your issue:

Volumio support acknowledged that issue in December 2024 and indicated the tech team is working on it. Test whether using a web browser instead of the Android app avoids your volume control disappearance.

Kind Regards,

Hi @nerd

I answer your questions below:

  • The OS version is 3.886
  • I play webradio - it stops all of a sudden and then loses the volume control.
  • My phone is Sony Xperia 10 IV, model XQ-CC54, running Android 14
  • Volumio app version is 4.251222.0
  • As for your last question, I have not tried controlling the streamer via the browser interface.

The bug you refer to, does not immediately seem to be related, but maybe it is, I wouldn’t know.

I dare calling it a bug, because 1) I cannot imagine that you intended this behaviour under any circumstance, and 2) no user would want this behaviour. So there …

Hi,
could you please perform a factory reset?

Please let us know if the issue persists
Best regards,
Marco

Hi @Marco_Melziade,
I have performed the factory reset. I’ll be using it for a few days and then I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hi Marco,

I think I can now already make the following observations after the factory reset:

  • The problem with random stops in playing is not very big. It seems to happen within the first 15 minutes or
so and then hardly anymore. But more testing is probably needed.

  • I also had random stops in playing when controlling the streamer from the browser interface (to answer an earlier
question), although I have not tested this after the factory reset, If you want me to do that, please let me know.

  • When I resume playing after a stop, the volumio volume control bar remains in place, which it did not before.
    so that is an improvement.

  • HOWEVER, if the volumio app loses contact with the streamer because the phone’s wifi connection is down or
unavailable, such as if I put my phone in flight mode or leave my apartment, then when the wifi connection is back
on and the app and the streamer have contact again, then the volumio volume bar is now missing. It is not
enough to put the app in the background and then in the foreground; I need to forcibly shut it down and then
start it again. It would be nice if this was not the case.

I hope this report is useful.

Regards,
Morten
