A simple Raspberry Pi5 + NVMe build

Hi all,

This has weirdly taken me a long time to complete, but now that it is I thought I’d share.

This is a Raspberry Pi5 2GB with PimoRoni NVMe host fitted with Kingston NV2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD 500GB M.2 2280.

The enclosure is from eBay: BZ1105 Amplifier Chassis Full Aluminum PSU Enclosure Mini Desktop DAC Case

The PSU is a MeanWell RS-15-5, good for 3A of current.

The “hat” has solid-state switching of the 5V power and uses a GPIO to indicate the unit has booted/shutdown by lighting the front switch either dimly or brightly.

The PimoRoni is a bit annoying if you want your Pi sockets to protrude through the metalwork because it is longer than the Pi5 itself. I don’t know why it isn’t longer at the SD card end instead. Effectively I had to make this the case by filing the mounting holes into slots so it could slide back a few mm.

The connected DAC is CM6631A based and worked without any issues.

Maybe this is useful to somebody!
