You really have built a piece of crap

Spent whole day trying to get this thing to work, giving it up and moving to a different player.

I first started installing Volumio using the Raspberry PI Imager, where you can pick Volumio from the list. I flashed it to a SD Card and booted up my pi. It started, but after that it just stopped. I flashed it again, no result. Then I read somewhere I need to take volumio from the volumio site, and flash it using Ballena Etcher. This time it booted up, and from the instructions I should install the android app from the store, start it up and then it should find my volumio instance and configure it. It didn’t find it, because the volumio doesn’t automatically configure wireless wifi. I had to figure out how to do that, and after that (2 hrs gone by then), I pointed a webbrowser to my volumio host. I now saw the volumio interface where some kind of wizard showed up saying “step 0 of 0”, and it kept showing for hours and hours. I read somewhere on this forum, that I needed to go back a few versions, so I did and flashed it again. I again needed to configure wireless setting, then I pointed out my mobile phone to my volumio instance (it found it!), but then it immediately upgrade to the latest version and I am again stuck in this wizard.

This is really bad software, you should give good instructions on your website, or even better, create a working setup instruction.

Thanks for ruining my afternoon

Certainly short and to the point. Maybe some more information might encourage someone to help you and point out where you are going wrong. Thousands of users can’t be that wrong.

Keep telling yourself that it’s definitely not you.

See my first post, I added my experience.

Hey @steefD,

You are not the first who fell into the Imager trap. In all cases, you should download official release, decompress it and flash extracted local xxx.img, not zip, nor image offered by the Imager.

After initial boot, you should use your standard WiFi application, simply connect to the hotspot starting with Volumio-xxx. In the hotspot mode, Volumio uses default IP address: 192.168.211.1 or http://volumio.local. Using browser configure your Volumio instance and connect to your WiFi network.

All explained in Help Docs under 2-3 mouse clicks most.

At my leisure, tested procedure from download to final reboot under 5 min: 00:04:38:92 on my stopwatch.

If I may suggest, please review materials, re-asses experience and engage with detailed improvement suggestions where improvement is needed.

Please elaborate.

Kind Regards,

  • Do not offer Volumio on the Raspberry Pi imager if it doesn’t work
  • Mention the default credentials on your website
  • When booted, the console says "WebUI available at volumio.local (192.168.211.1). As I understand it, that is not true, a hotspot is created at 192.168.211.1 and you need to connect to it.
  • Improve your forumsoftware, even when typing this reply the focus is taken away over and over again and I need to click in a textbox to proceed with my message.
  • The one and single reason I am trying this is bluetooth playback and I have to pay for it??

Hey @steefD,

We do not. Requested countless times already from the Imager devs to rectify the situation. It is unfortunate, but Volumio has no control over other registered entities work, for as long as it is not infringing statue of law.

Interesting suggestion. Thank you.

I can clearly see WebUI available under shown coordinates. I think you missing some hints around initial access. Please elaborate further.

Volumio forum is based on Discord Opensource and Volumio is not maintaining the code of it. Please head to the forum open-source backend and fill bug report. If there were previous reports with the same problem, there is a real chance that Discord developers may implement a fix.

I think this is in reference to premium and licenced features of My Volumio protected IP.
There are numerous posts in forum how to setup Volumio as Bluetooth receiver without subscription and at your own discretion nonetheless carrying a risk.

Please correct me if any part of my assessment is off.

Kind Regards,

There is a free trial for Volumio premium that allows you to try all the features without jumping through any hoops
How long is the free trial?

Man, I feel your pain! I had a rough time with Volumio too when I first tried it on my Raspberry Pi. I ended up flashing the SD card multiple times before I found one that worked better. For me, getting the Wi-Fi set up was the trickiest part, and I had to dig around to figure it out. I also noticed that some SD cards just don’t work well with it, so switching to a different one helped me out a lot. It can be such a hassle, but once it’s running, it’s pretty great.

Wow, a lot here
Could it possibly be, and I’m just putting it out there, your skills?

Personally I have never had a problem, configuring the WIFI can be tricky on a Pi but if you are using supported hardware it should be ok.

A real ray of sunshine here.
I suspect you are popular with the call centres.

FYI, this is not the way to engage support.

Wow.
Everyone has been super nice and trying to make you feel good.
Not me. How RUDE, to just pile into the forum with your bad humour and insults when YOU are the problem.
Literally thousands of people are using Volumio daily and it is an amazing system. Of course for the premium features you have to pay a couple of Starbucks Lattes a month, people have to put food on their family’s table.

Here’s what you need to do:

Sort out your anger issues.
Come back here and apologise.
Follow the instructions of the Volumio guys like Wheaten and Ballbuze, they are top notch guys.
Try again. Try the free trial of premium.

Honestly, it’s a great system. The premium features are well worth the money and once you get it installed you will be very happy. You are getting better than Sonus capability for peanuts .

Wow! I’m impressed how polite everyone here has been towards this very rude person!

Also, the software is great so I happily pay the premium cost. Thank you Volumio :muscle::clinking_glasses:

I’m using Volumio now for more than 3 years, never seen anything comparable.
I now pay the premium fee. Worth it. A thousand times.
