Just installed the latest update and thought I’d try to cleanup or fix the plugins that hadn’t been working before (every plugin I’ve tried to install after the initial few have been erroring out with the cryptic message “there was an error”, but displaying as installed but not active). I tried to uninstall those without success, and at some point in the process the system just froze. Now it won’t restart. It comes up just enough to SSH to it, but the system screen stays blank and there’s no web interface.
I saw that during the update process it first created a backup, so I’d like to revert to that, to avoid all the re-configuration required if I reflash. But looking at /data/INTERNAL, the volumio_data.tgz file contains only favorites, playlists, and queue files, and the volumio_data.tar file can’t be unzipped (gets a “not in gzip format” error).
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you’ve encountered with the update and plugins. To better assist you with resolving this issue and restoring your previous system version, could you kindly provide some additional details?
Specifically:
System Hardware:
What device are you running Volumio on (e.g., Raspberry Pi, x86 device, or other hardware)?
Are there any peripherals or connected devices (e.g., USB DACs, external drives, network storage, screens) that might be relevant?
Display and Access:
Is there a screen connected to the system? If so, are any messages displayed during boot-up?
Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet to connect to the device?
Logs and System Information:
Could you share the output of the following commands via SSH? These will help us understand the system’s current state:
systemctl status volumio
sudo journalctl -u volumio -n 50
Storage Space:
How much storage space is available on your system? You can check this using:
df -h
Additionally, please note that a direct rollback to the previous version may not be possible. As such, a reinstallation of the system might be necessary. While this would require reconfiguring your system, it is often the most reliable way to resolve such issues.
With these details, we’ll be better equipped to guide you through troubleshooting or restoring your previous system state.
