A small mesage to say that I am done with Volumio.
Why ?
Because I am unable to use for more than 2 days in a row.
It works.
And all the sudden it is not recognized by third party software anymore.
It just vanishes from the network…
The Volumio app can detect the device on the network.
But BubbleUPNP cannot.
Symfonium can not.
That would not be so bad if the Volumio app would be well developped and would allow some really basic operations like SORTING ALBUMS BY DATE.
I think this has been requested several times. But developers simply DO NOT CARE about the customers request. Instead they spend time developing overexpensive hardware. Honestly… Get back to the basics…
I am now using moOde; and that is reliable.
So is Rune Audio.
And they can be used flawlessly with third party software.
The only thing I will regret : that I paid for an annual susbscription believing this would actually work. It does not… And of course, I will get no refund.
Tried it again as Volumio has the best features.
So I created a new SD card with a freshly installed Volumio yesterday evening.
This morning, so after not even 12 hours, BubbleUPNP does find the Volumio player, but is unable to send sound to it.
Symfonium is the same : sends to seconds and stops.
Only solution : use the Volumio app with all the aforementioned limitations…
Are you requesting support, or are you just looking for a platform to complain.
You’re just posting complaints, and lack to provide any data so people can provide support.
Why ?
Because everything works with the Volumio app.
So what is not working ?
Simply put, after some time, for some reason not to be explained : the Volumio driven Pi4 is either not recognized by third party software (i.e. Bubble UPNP does not see the Volmumio renderer which is on the network) or is recognized but only for some “seconds” (i.e. Symfonium sees the Volumio as a renderer but each file stops playback after 2/3 seconds) or can’t go to the next track (i.e. Emby that stops after track 1 and never manages to go to track 2).
OK. Why not using Volumio if that works ?
Because navigating between artists is not really nice with Volumio (there is not Artist art, just a folder symbol and the artist’s name… I am evben wondering why there’s that huge folder symbol…) and because I can’t display album by release date.
BubbleUPNP, Emby and Symfonium (which are all free apps like Volumio) are able to do that…
I’ve looked and request for those features have been made years ago and no one cares about those.
So, I just switched to something else.
So yes, I am just complaining, because :
1°) Volumio clearly fits my needs as a system (because it has Qobuz and Tidal included)
2°) because Volumio can detect my NAS flawlessly when the competitors fail to do so
3°) because I can therefore drive my music from my computer of from my tablet
4°) because I hoped for a stable software as it is so popular
5°) because I paid the annual fee (but I’ll survive it)
Of course, if the Volumio team would open a “Complaints” section, I would have posted there indeed.
But this seemed to be the most appropriate place to post…

Mind you, if you’d rather me complaining on other sites I can (Head-Fi or AV Forum) I can do it…
Of course, if it is not allowed to post to complain, I will just pretend that Volumio is perfect.
And it would be to me if it would allow to enjoy my music when I want to listen to music.
So far Volumio 3 does not.
So I downgraded to Volumio 2.9.17 and it has lasted so far for much more time than Volumio 3 ever did.

It seems to fits my needs or my install better.
If that does not work I’ll report in said section.
But if Volumio 2 works, I have yet to finds a feature that is included in Volumio 3 that I miss on Volumio 2.
