I have been running a RP3 + hifiberry AMP2 DAC/AMP for years but… well it broke.
What would be your choice to replace the AMP2?

I’ve been using one of these for the last 6 months or so. It’s a very impressive DAC/Amp, at a good price.

The user has 50-100 euro to spend, for this money you don’t have a decent USB DAC + AMP.
One of the cheapest decent USB DAC is already around 85 Euro (review)
One of the cheapest AMP’s with decent output is around 70 Euro (review)
Advantage of single units is that you can easily upgrade, by replacing a single unit. However this was not what the user asked.

My project is a fully integrated streamer for my kid with a touchscreen. All should be in a very small form factor. So i rather go for a hat. I understand the fully audiophile lovers btw.

Yeah those hats are expensive by the time delivered to a lot of countries. Worth doing a blind ab test to see if you can hear a difference. Funny hobby this.

Mine is a bit suigeneris (due to my AMP stage on Lyndgorf TDAi2200 not working ):
Volumio 4 (on Pi5 8GB) → Topping D10S (as a bridge from USB->COAX) → Lyngdorf TDAi 2200 (as preamp with Room Perfect and costumized Target Curve) → Topping E70 (COAX IN / Balanced analog out) → 2x Fosi Mono Amp V3 (with upgraded OPAMP 2x LM4562NA and 1xSparkos SS3602 (#2) ) → B&W 805S
That’s a lot of gear… my volumio setup is relatively simple:
Rpi4 - RME ADI 2 fs - Yamaha hs80m + hs8 sub.
Besides controlling from PC web page the PC doesn’t need to be involved at all (I have foobar and tidal for that and separate setup:
Topping DX5 ii - THX 789 - headphones (or Neumann KH120A)

I recently entered the Volumio world via Minidsp SHD and the only thing beneath it is Nad C298, extremely satisfied! Great DAC inside SHD it seems, have been running Adirvana into Nad C388 - and the included full Dirac room correction with SHD was a huge leap forward in sound quality for me, the largest improvement ever, but transition from Bluos 1st generation MDC card in C388 to SHD immediately brought a cleaner, less harsh and calmer stereo image from my B&W CM10s2.
