I wonder when the Rivo will get a newer than 4.9.241 from 2016/17?
Other CPU platforms are on 6.x…
Seems like a security issue as well as a performance issue running so old kernel?

Ehh, no plan in sight to upgrade kernel to 6.x on Rivo as already done on other platforms? 
Kernel’s lifecycle doesn’t work exactly in this way: 6.x doesn’t phase out 5.x and 4.x but there is a N-2 cycle, with some Long Term Support releases in every major version.
As of now we don’t plan to update kernel to newer version, but we have investigated with more recent kernel versions during our experiments.
Unfortunately 4.9 proved to be the most performing kernel in term of stability and features (We added a bunch of optimizations and unique customizations such as HDMI ARC support).
So as of now we don’t feel inclined to update this kernel soon.
