Very nice project. Did you print your own case for the remote?
A view years ago I did a similar project, using the Volumio API to create a remote control. It is still working but the battery lifetime is just 48 hours.

This week I get a esp32 S3 development board with round 1.8 inch display, to restart the project. To be fair, I am planning the same as you did. Maybe I will come back to you for amy questions.
