Volumio 4.119, Pi 3B, IQAudio DAC.
Volumio insists upon auto-mounting a USB drive to the path /media/drivename with the user and group both set to “root”. This prevents adding or updating the USB disk’s directories and music files from another computer across the LAN because of the error: “Could not create directory: Received error SSH_FX_PERMISSION_DENIED with description ‘Permission denied’”. Filezilla can only be logged in as the user “volumio”, not as “root”. Also, you cannot change the ownership of the mounted directory using SSH (eg with PuTTY, sudo chown) because you cannot log in as the user “root” either (only as “volumio”). The auto-mount and its restrictions seem to be the result of a change made in the newer versions of Volumio. Is there a way to remount the USB drive path with the owner and group set to “volumio”?

I think it’s this issue, reported 4 months ago.
opened 05:03PM - 09 May 26 UTC
Tested with with V4.119 and V4.139., on to systems Dell Wyse 3040 and Dell Wyse … 5070.
Both act the same and very issue is reproduceable.
Took a fresh install, ran intial setup and installed FusionDSP.
At this point everything looks normal.

As soon as I connect a USB3 HDD, the ownership of /data/INTERNAL changes to root, causing the plugins to break.

On Top, new installed plugins are not installed on the Volumio drive, but to the removal harddisk. So unplugging the harddisk all content of /data/INTERNAL is gone.
Log without HDD. Owner of /data/INTERNAL/FusionDsp = volumio

Connect HDD:
Owner of /data/INTERNAL/. = root

In my case, volumio is installed on sdb.
The logs shows that when I connect the external drive sda, it's reffered to as sdb, which doesn't make sense, as sdb is the drive where Volumio has been installed.

Thanks. It’s an ownership issue and with the owner being set to “root” one cannot simply change the ownership. Not even using sudo permissions.

I expect the USB drive is formatted as exfat?
if yes then a temp bypass is given in my previous post.
