Volumio Motivo DAC filter options

Hi Volumio users and owners - Especially Motivo owners.

I received my Motivo in December just before Christmas. Great unit. Using it with Roon using the internal DAC of the Motivo.

I’m really impressed with the internal DAC in the Motivo. Came from the basic Rivo with iFi Elite PSU and the Merason Frerot and Merason Pow1. It’s not by much but the Motivo surpasses this combo and is a more cost effective. That’s why I think the Motivo is really good value for the money. You get a really great streamer + great DAC and great PSU integration (no need for an external linear PSU) I’m not a headphone user so I won’t get into that part. Yes the Motivo is great value as a result of what I have mentioned.

Normally I do prefer NOS DACs over Delta Sigma DACs as they primarily are more musical to my ears. Ess Sabre DACs are also not my thing. But I do think Volumio and Amanero has made a good implementation is this particular case.

As I use the internal DAC I am curious what other Motivo users use as their preferred DAC-filter? I prefer the “Minimum phase slow roll-off” filter as it is the most homogenous and musical filter to my ears. But I do think that the “Brick Wall” filter has great dynamics and drive when I listen to live recordings…… Question is what filter You prefer?

my favorite one is also “Minimum phase slow roll-off”, but it’s a matter of personal taste

Thank You for contributing Darmur - Everything is a matter of personal taste

if you are curious about the shape of the available filters, you can have a look at the datasheet of the ES9038, pages 55 and 56

Thanks Darmur :+1:
