Volumio does not boot

I was running an old volumio on a RB3 and wanted to refresh to the latest version. I downloaded the 3.569 image and installed it onto a 8GB micro sd card (with raspberry pi imager). But then the system would not boot it seems. The link volumio.local never becomes active.

Things I tried:

  • I then got a NEW micro sd card of 32GB thinking that might be it, but same result
  • I even ordered a new RB4 but still same result (with the new power supply)
  • found an older image on this forum (version 2.777) and that one works just fine
  • I unplugged the DAC (that i initially had installed)
  • I am using an internet cable
  • no screen so i cannot really see what is going on
  • the red light comes on and stays on. but the green light comes on, flickers a bit and then goes off again.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Are there settings I need to change in the config.txt for volumio to just boot? I have never had any problems with older versions.

Try this:

  • download the latest version
  • unzip the download file
  • use Raspberry Pi imager to flash your SD card
  • start your Pi with the SD
  • on your phone/computer connect to a wifi hotspot called something Volumio
  • go to volumio.local on your phone/computer browser and configure the system

Thanks Simon

this actually worked. I had tried to write directly from the raspberry pi imager and also tried writing the zip file directly. Both work on the surface but neither worked.

Unzipping the image and writing that one did the trick… thank you so much… and happy new year
