So far I’ve always controlled my Classé Audio CP-800 pre-amplifier from a Mac Mini running OS X. Today I tried running Volumio on my Raspberry Pi V3 B+ and was extremely pleased that it immediately worked 
Except for one thing. Hardware volume control is working in the sense that I can change the volume in the Volumio UI and the amplifier nicely does what it is told. However, when I change the volume on my amplifier using the remote or physical volume knob, Volumio doesn’t seem to notice.
Example: I set volume in Volumio to 90% (very load) and then on the amplifier I set it to 30%. Then I go to the Volumio UI and it still says 90%. If I then lower the volume using the slider (using web UI on my iPhone), then the real volume (which was 30%) first jumps to 90% and is then lowered to match the slider in Volumio UI.
Hence the question: is it possible for Volumio to read the amplifier’s actual volume and change the UI accordingly? Please note that I’d rather not use software volume control, my question is really about using hardware volume control.
