BEFORE YOU POST ABOUT WIFI PROBLEMS
READ THIS FIRST
This thread has over ONE HUNDRED posts discussing WiFi connectivity issues
on Volumio 4. Before adding another “WiFi not working” report, understand
the current situation:
VERSION HISTORY
4.073 (First Official Release)
- Shipped with wireless.js marginally updated from Volumio 3
- Known problems: CPU runaway (61-99% on Pi 3, 22-77% on Pi 4), connection
failures, hotspot/client switching issues, network stack starvation
4.083/4.084 (Beta/Test Channel)
- COMPLETELY REDESIGNED wireless.js - ground-up rewrite
- Addresses CPU consumption, connection stability, interface timing
- Available on TEST CHANNEL for brave volunteers
If you are running 4.073 or earlier and experiencing WiFi problems, the
answer is: UPDATE TO TEST CHANNEL or wait for stable release.
SINGLE NETWORK MODE (SNM) - THIS IS NOT A BUG
Volumio enforces Single Network Mode:
- Only ONE network interface can have an IP address at any time
- Ethernet ALWAYS takes priority over WiFi
- WiFi will NOT connect while ethernet cable is plugged in
- WiFi activates automatically when ethernet is disconnected or absent
If you plug in an ethernet cable and then complain “WiFi stopped working”
- that is EXPECTED BEHAVIOR, not a bug. Unplug the cable.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
If you have a REAL WiFi problem (not SNM misconception):
- EXACT Volumio version (not “latest” - the actual number)
- Device model and revision code
- WiFi adapter (internal or USB model)
- Log link from http://your-volumio-ip/dev
- Upload or share using available file shar service
/tmp/vireless.log - What you expected vs what happened
Posts saying “WiFi broken, please fix” without this information will be
ignored. We cannot investigate problems you refuse to document.
