Volumio-3.785-2024-12-16 RaspBerry PI 2B WIFI don't work [SOLVED]

Good morning everyone, I’m Roberto and it’s the first time I’ve written on the forum.
Yesterday I updated to the new version of Volumio (see it in the title).
The system is a RaspBerry Pi 2B with a 16GB Sandisk microSD.
After the update, WIFI stopped working. With the LAN cable everything works fine.

I tried using three different dongles but nothing.
They stay off, and if I try to turn them on; Volumio saves settings but WIFI remains off.

Any advice?

22/12/2024 with version 3.569-2023-10-20 the wifi started working correctly again but not with all dongles, only with the Tp-Link wn725n - Realtek RTL8188EUS chipset
with the two Gembird WNP-UA-005 cards - Chipset: RTL8192EU does not work

greetings to everyone

P.S.: I advise anyone in the same situation as me to disable automatic updates.

Hi!
can you give details about our dongles?
manufacturer, chipset…

Hi balbuze!
Sure!

  1. Tp-Link wn725n - chipset Realtek RTL8188EUS
  2. 2x Gembird WNP-UA-005 - Chipset: RTL8192EU

Of course all dongles are tested and fully functional on all platforms: Windows, Linux, MacOS

I also tried changing the USB port, but to no avail

@Wheaten @nerd any info?

what is the output of:

Hey @gatsu_yokohama,

Start your volumio without WiFi dongle connected. Once the system is started, then insert the WiFi dongle to the USB port and post:

Debug log link.

Attach to your response compressed with zip dmesg.txt from the following command:

dmesg > dmesg.txt

I’m so sorry, i create log but I don’t fully understand what you mean by that.

Hey @gatsu_yokohama,

  1. Login to your Volumio player using ssh client
  2. Execute command dmesg > dmesg.txt
  3. Copy resulting dmsg.txt to your workstation, laptop, etc
  4. Using file compression tool zip copied dmesg.txt to dmesg.zip
  5. Attach/upload dmesg.zip to your post

Mising driver.

ok! and how do I proceed?

Thats for our wizzkids, to determine if these drivers can be added.
@nerd , @Darmur

unfortunately I can’t help regarding this, I don’t know how to integrate custom WiFi drivers.

furthermore, I don’t even have those dongles for testing eventually

the quickest way to solve this problem is to get a WiFi dongle supported by the latest Volumio image out-of-the-box

Ok I have two solutions in mind:

  1. download an old version of Volumio (could you please tell me where can I find an old image of Volumio?)
  2. could you please suggest me a dongle supported by the latest Volumio image out-of-the-box?

what old version was working for you?

How about we check if this is a matter of the firmware blobs?

Whilst using ssh session:

wget http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/pool/non-free-firmware/f/firmware-nonfree/firmware-realtek_20241210-1_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i ./firmware-nonfree/firmware-realtek_20241210-1_all.deb

reboot -n

If it works, this may be an easy fix.

Kind Regards,

nope don’t work
thanks a lot
Kind Regards

One or two releases before this one.
I remember that before this last update everything worked correctly.
thank you
