Volumio 2.175 + Rpi3 cannot connect internet in WIFI

Volumio 2.175 + Rpi3

Hello everybody,

With a wired connection everything went well but with a WIFI connection, the webradios do not work, the update does not work, the plugin youtube does not work … It seems that it is impossible to connect to Internet.
An idea
Thank you

Have you turned wifi on and added the details of your network?

Before checking the internet part, let’s make sure local network works (& please read my signature  )
Have you turned OFF Hotspot?
If that’s the case, is Local network working when Volumio is on Wifi only (i.e. can you connect to Web UI, or access it with SSH)?

If Local networking is fine, you may have a DNS issue.
If you use one of the latest image (2.163 or newer), you may set custom DNS with WebUI (scroll down in Network settings): try with default OpenDNS ones.

Thank you for your help
I confirm that local networking is fine, I can stream music from my NAS
I have tried to set DNS with default ones (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) but no result

You may try googles (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), or better your ISP’s

As you should be able to SSH to Volumio (volumio:volumio as user:pass), can you report the output of the following commands:ifconfig sudo iwconfig cat /etc/resolv.conf

No result with 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4…

Thanks a lot for spending time for me!

There might be some routing issue with your Wifi router setup.
Volumio Wifi IP is on 192.168.0.x subnet, whereas apparently your router gives some DNS service on 192.168.1.1 (probably your ISP Gateway).
Is you wifi router a different device than ISP gateway?

When you connect Volumio device with Ethernet (and with working Internet), is it on 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x subnet ?

Did you set Volumio wifi IP Manually (and made a typo on subnet number and/or mask), or in Auto (DHCP) mode?
Have you successfully connected any other Wifi device (enjoying Internet service) on that same wifi router?
What is it’s IP address then?

SOLVED!
thank you so much!
I had set Volumio wifi IP manually and Gataway address was wrong!
Now I can connect to internet in WIFI mode and listen my web radios!
Everything works fine except a lot of cuts when playing dsf audio files whether in wifi or wired (buffer before play 40%).
Maybe you have an idea as?
Thanks

Glad it helped diagnose & fix.
For the other different issue, no idea, but you may search forum and eventually open another thread if nothing helps.

Try this: enable resampling, leave everything to native but set the resampling algorythm quality to medium or low. Let me know

Hi,
I tried these settings but no improvement. Maybe files are too heavy (250Mo for 5 mn).
There are fewer breaks after the first 15 seconds (wired). In WIFI, it is catastrophic, but probably due to the size of the file.
Buffer is set to 12Mb and 40%, but maybe too small for heavy files?
Another issue is that sometimes after reboot my RPI3 (unplug and plug power supply! no other solution) no WIFI. So I reboot wired and I notice WIFI is set to “OFF”. Maybe SD Card is “tired” by frequent unplug/plug?
Many Thanks

In such case, do you notice a “Volumio” wifi SSID available in your environment?
Do your wifi re-connection issues also happen if Volumio Hotspot setting is set to OFF in Volumio Network Preference Web UI?

No volumio WIFI SSID
Hotspot is set to OFF

so I have to restart wired and sometime but not every time I notice that wifi is set to OFF…very strange, no?

Are frequent plug/unplug bad for SD card or hardware?

Notice I have Raspberry PI3 + hifiberry Dac +

Thanks

@Paziat, for Wifi issue, can you try the following. Under console or SSH, type: sudo mv /etc/udev/rules.d/99-Volumio-net.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/99-Volumio-net.back and reboot.
Can you let me know if it has positive impact on your wifi troubles?

PS: for SD card sanity and overall system stability, it’s better if you do a proper shutdown before removing power: Volumio menu allows to shutdown properly.

Thank you.
I’ll try when coming back home and let you know.
Have a nice day.

Hi, i’m having a similar issue as cannot connect via Wifi I have a RPI3 and have 2.175 installed. It was previously connecting via Wifi on older versions.

Now when i connect via the web GUI it does not seem to connect to my home wifi. It can see the SSID and when trying to connect it does not connect.

I have also tried with the hotspot turned on and am able to connect to the hotspot but it does not connect to my wifi.

Also if i turn the hotspot off from the web gui then I am not able to turn the Wireless Networking on. Every time i save and then reload the page I see the Wireless networking toggled to the off position.

I have the following output

Any help is much appreciated.

How did you update (and from which version): OTA or new image?
Can you try with new image?

I upgraded from 2.163 or whatever was the previous version to the new 2.175 over the air using the gui updater.

A reflash and fresh install has solved the issue thanks for that! I did try to back up my radio stations but couldn’t figure out how to do this despite the quick and dirty guide I tried to follow…

Hi macmpi,

I’m back home and I tried your solution, but I can not tell if the problem is solved because it was random. For now it works …
The main problem is that in case of loss of the wifi signal the automatic reconnection does not work and it is necessary to reboot the RPI 3

Yeah, this would be a nice one, I haven’t seen it on the market, is this available? I would buy one, as I have always been disconnected from the electricity. It would be nice to have such a device to charge the phone or other useful things when my light is down. To be honest, It would be much better to deal somehow with my electricity supplier, but I am afraid this is not possible. Somebody told me I can change this supplier to a private one. More than that I can change it really easy and I won’t have to much to do with all that. As far as I know I have to use the usave service for that. The only one thing that I will have to do is to give them my postal code and to choose from the available suppliers in the area. They will take care about the rest. With all that, I would definitely buy a bbq like this one, it seems to be really cool.
