Use hifiberry ADC ad analogic input and hifiberry digi+pro for toslink output

HI

My current working config is RPI3B + 7"screen+ Hifiberry digi+pro connected to SMSL M100 as dac.
This work perfectly.
I would like to add hifiberry ADC for analog entry .
is that config possible and works ? this would say that I will have two carts plugged to the GPIO of the rpi3

Regards
Georges

This will not work. You can’t configure multiple Audio hats as far as I know.
You need something like:
https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/dac2adcpro/

outch! I do want having external dac to be able to evolve in case…

So if I put the adc hat, remove the digi+pro and use usb to output to the external dac ? is that work ?

Maybe some community members have some experience with this. As I haven’t played much around with this.
I don’t want to provide the wrong answers.

If you use a HAT, you need to provide a dtoverlay for it. For Volumio this will be the Playback part, if you next select a USB DAC, the dtoverlay will be removed.

“if you next select a USB DAC, the dtoverlay will be removed.”

I am not sure to see what you mean.
In the play back option I would select USB, then how to associate the ADC hifiberry in order to have it as second source, the main is qobuz.

@Wheaton is suggesting you connect a USB cable for the M100 and bypass the Digi+ Pro. In Playback options disable I2S DAC and select the M100.

You can then try installing the ADC hat and configuring it via Sources > Digital and Analog Inputs. I have never setup Digital and Analog Inputs as I do not have a suitable subscription. I am not sure if it can be done, but I suspect it is possible to do.

Thnks for the anwser, i would like to be sure it will work before putting money on the table.

Hello Gvida.

Having thinkered around ADC input for Volumio, the only way to do it properly is to connect a USB adc board like Motu, Tascam or Scarlet.
Some phono preamp also have an usb output you could youse to connect your turntable to Volumio.

But even if it works well, you loose the ability to change the frequency/bitrate settings as there are no Linux drivers to control that feature (providers only stick to Win/macOS for that control). I use a Tascam able to convert at 192/32 but limited to 48/32 under Linux.
Anyway, vinyls sound very good and I do not think going higher resolution would make a significant improvement.

Cheers,

Benoit

Hi benoit
In ase i find an usb adc and connect it to one usb port of the rpi3, how to set up volumio to make this usb entry recognized as a selectable entry in addition the qobuz.

Connect your usb ADC to your RPi and boot Volumio. If you are a premium user, you should see your ADC interface appearing as a new tile in the base menu (US1x2H in my exemple). Click on this tile to activate this input then play whatever is connected to your ADC, it will go through Volumio.

Benoit, Yes I have the premium level. I did with an USB adc/DAC converter (U-PHORIA UMC202HD from behringer) I bought years ago with a microphone for measurement.
This box is immediately recognize by volumio and works.
That done, the question is. Better to buy the project phono preamp with dac integrated, or use a rca->rca phone preampli and connect it ot u-phoria?
