Comments: Out of the box, the DAC didn’t work with Volumio. I kept receiving “usb 1-1-port2: over-current change” errors in dmesg with no audio only a clipping sound. To resolve this I had to add the following to /boot/config.txt:
max_usbcurret=1
max_usb_current=1
which then allowed the DAC to show up in my devices list, I could select it and it works brilliantly now.

Tested Versions and Platforms: Volumio 1.55 on Raspberry Pi 2B & HifiBerry Digi+ on PC-USB and coax input of the RC1570
Harware Mixer on Volumio: No
Comments: All bitrates & sample frequencies up to 24/192 via SPDIF/coax work without adjustments. For USB playback, all streams are forced to 32-bit (s32_le versus s24_3le) with the sample frequency unchanged. This was done by adding Format “:32:” to the USB related audio_output section in /etc/mpd.conf. Without this adjustment 16-bit files play fine, but I get noise for 24-bit files.

Comments: In UAC1 the DAC supports CD quality and a bit more (up to 24bit/48ksps). In UAC2 it uses up to 32bit/192ksps for high res audio, but UAC2 doesn’t work with Pi 2 (stuttering sound).
