Troubleshooting first launch with RPi 3A+

I bought a RPi 3A+ specifically intending to use it with Volumio, and I am having trouble setting it up for the first time. RPi 3A+ has no ethernet port, so unfortunately I cannot easily use a wired ethernet connection to solve my problem.

I flashed the latest Volumio image onto a 16GB microSD using Raspberry Pi Imager on macOS. I’ve tried reflashing it a few times this way, first attempting to configure the settings in Imager to include my WiFi network name and password, and then when that didn’t work, reflashed with the default settings. I opened the Volumio app on my iPhone and waited for the lights on the RPi to stop flickering and tried to “Configure a New Device,” but that didn’t work either. As far as I can tell, this RPi has never joined my WiFi network, and it has never created a network that I’ve been able to join. I’ve tried looking for a “Volumio” network in the list of available WiFi networks, but haven’t even seen its name on the list when attempting to join from my laptop or iPhone.

I don’t know what to try next to fix this issue. I can’t even view a log because connecting to http://volumio.local/ or http://raspberrypi.local/ always fails. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I reflashed with Imager one more time, this time selecting the volumio IMG as a “custom” OS, instead of using the Volumio image available as a “media player OS”, and this time when I turned on the RPi, a network named Volumio finally appeared! It’s still not fully set up, but I’m making progress.

To this point all Volumio images delivered by Raspberry Pi Imager fails. Hence the instructions to download it only from Volumio.com

Thanks for the clarification. I had downloaded the image from Volumio the whole time, I just didn’t realize that I had to choose it as a custom OS. For some reason I thought the Volumio image listed as a “media player OS” was pointing to the same IMG file that I downloaded from Volumio. I didn’t realize that it actually pointed to a different file.

aha, No it’s indeed not pointing to the official release.
Glad you got it resolved.
