Spotify plugin 4.1.1 not working with HiFiBerry DAC plus (PCM 5122)

After upgrading Spotify plugin to 4.1.1., DAC stop working.
It is HiFiBerry DAC plus (PCM 5122) compatible and I noticed other users are having the same problem.

We figured it out it is a driver issue for this particular chipset. Did anyone find a solution for this?

is the problem only with Spotify, or also with other sources?

I only use my RasPi to play Spotify.
I hope others could answer this question.

It would be helpful if you could try with something else, for example a web radio

I actually swapped this DAC with pHAT DAC (which is working) already.
I will try your suggestion when I get around to change it back later.

Hello, I have the same problem. Raspi4 and Hifiberry Dac2 HD. Local music works very well. Unable to play Spotify music. I redid the complete installation, and installed the Spotify 4.1.4 plugin. Playback doesn’t start.

I spent my morning trying to get spotify to work. Installation ok, premium account connection ok, playlists ok, no music playback, nothing. even installing older versions. From my past experience, stop developing search ia or anything else, look at the stability of the plugin, or even integrate it into the OS. I’ll come back to Volumio in a few months if I see a real improvement in the forums.

Instead of dropping the ball, you could wait for a reply from @Darmur. If you have a failing instance they might find the root cause and solve it for everyone.

Just a thought.

unfortunately I can’t give much help without additional details and a system log

Hey @Thib68,

As @Darmur metioned - without specific details about your setup and a debug log, it’s difficult to determine the root cause of the issue. To assist you effectively, please provide the following:

  • Device details (Raspberry Pi model and all connected devices including connection type)
  • Volumio version (Exact version number)
  • Link to debug log (Generated via http://volumio.local/dev or via SSH with journalctl -u volumio.service --no-pager)

With this information, we can investigate further.

Kind Regards,

sorry this morning I was a little disapointed. It’s a Raspi4 1.2, Hifiberry dac2HD card (GPIO) home made 5.1V stabilized power supply. Latest version of Volumio and latest version of spotify plugin. The system is installed on a USB3 NVME. I can no longer provide logs as I have installed “another musical O S”. I’d like to point out that apart from the Spotify problem, it works very well with local music and is very lively. The look is great too. And thank you for your attention. I’m going to reinstall it on an SD for testing and logs.

Update : see the log : http://logs.volumio.org/volumio/IUF8TCI.html

Hey @Thib68,

This is very interesting development indeed. No errors in the audio stage, no encapsulation events emitted that the alsa can not handle stream. The original post discussed pluging version 4.1.1 Just to confirm - which plugin version are you using?

Kind Regards,

logs were generated with version 4.1.4, test performed with version 4.1.1 and 4.1.3. same results. Thanks !

Hey @Thib68,

Version 4.1.4 requires uninstall-install approach. But I doubt this is the issue. The problem itself seems to be isolated to the specific hardware; no other reports alike, and taking that remaining audio sources are available in the audio stage, perhaps, we should focus on this aspect alone.

Would be possible for you to take photos of the DAC PCB top and bottom silk and share please?

Kind Regards,

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, with reboot. same problem.
I’d like to point out that in previous versions it worked very well (with the same hardware).
but I can’t find the install file for older versions of Voumio.
local sound and radio work fine.

here’s the manufacturer’s link of the DAC:

Thanks
