Some questions on Volumio Primo

Hi,

I’m new here and not much accustomed to mechanics of this Forum, so forgive me if it’s not the right section for the following.

I’ve been looking for a network streamer for some time to replace the old one.

Basically ideal device for me and my HIFI system is the one with a good DAC, natively supporting Spotify and Qobuz Connect, Spotify Lossless, Internet Radio (mainly BBC 6), balanced XLR out and HDMI out for displaying album art, now playing info (including Spotify, Qobuz etc) on an attached screen.

And I was recommended Volumio Primo. So, is there any one here familiar with this device? Would it be sufficient for what I am looking for?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

The PrimoV2 checks all boxes.

Thank you for your reply. I ran into some discussions here regarding Spotify, unofficial plugins and some issues which made me think that the device doesn’t support natively Spotify. But you suggest the otherwise.

Volumio doesn’t include Spotify as a built‑in native service, but it does support it through the official Spotify plugin, which is maintained by the Volumio community. It uses Librespot under the hood, so you get full Spotify Connect functionality and in‑app browsing. It’s not an “unofficial hack”, it’s simply implemented via Librespot rather than Spotify’s closed SDK.

As we speak Volumio is in contact with Spotify, which will hopefully result in a closed SDK.

Thank you for the clarification. Same goes for the other streaming services? All are implemented through same method?

As for the Premium Account subscription, is it necessary to be able access full functions of the device?

No Tidal and Qobuz are native integrations according the official SDK and therefor part of the premium account, which is already included with the Primo.
So all premium features come with the device.

Spotify is a free plugin.

Can any one who has a VP with a connected screen share photos of Spotify playing a song? Thank you very much.

Sorry for too many questions, does the Spotify implementation include Spotify Lossless as well?

You’re allowed to click the link I already shared. I promise it’s not just there to win ‘Most Decorative Post’ award!!!

Sorry, you mean that you shared a photo in that thread of 681 posts? And, Lossless is not supported?

Didn’t share a Photo, shared the topic on Spotify. So you understand why Spotify Lossless is not there yet.
