[Solved] hifiberry no longer works

I was happily using my Pi plus hifiberry on 1.1 volumio. Then one day the system was not working. No lights on the pi apart from the red power light.

I couldn’t get the Pi to boot with the SD card with volumio on, but it was ok with other distributions.

So I got another card and put 1.2 on it. Now the Pi boots fine and the web interface works, but I only have Alsa for audio output and of course no audio out.

Can anyone help with what might be wrong and how I can diagnose it please?

The Pi uses wired ethernet and has no other devices attached. I access it with SSH.

to be clear the audio from the hifiberry doesn’t work!

fixed it. Forgot the config edits…

snd_soc_bcm2708
snd_soc_bcm2708_i2s
bcm2708_dmaengine
snd_soc_pcm5102a
snd_soc_hifiberry_dac

Is there a reason to have to do this? It’s the only thing stopping it being plug and play.
