Simultaneously play from browsing device

Hi! I’m totally new to Volumio, so maybe this is a common question but I wasn’t sure how to word it (I did look around, didn’t find anything).

I’d like to play music simultaneously out of my Volumio server (RPi 2), plus out of the device that I’m logged into it with. Is this possible?

Basically, it’s a way for me to do multiroom audio in a sense. I have a receiver in the living room with the Pi connected directly, but I’d also like to be able to play it out of my computer/receiver in the other room if I have the volumio.local page up, for example. The audio would of course need to be in sync too. I guess this is SLIGHTLY different from multiroom audio in the traditional sense.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Getting audio to sync perfectly is really hard, there’s just so much that could delay the playback.
So you could press play on both volumio and your local audio system at the same time but you would still have a delay.

If you want to play from a local stream that’s send with upd multicast and keep the buffers exactly the same, just by having 2 different systems could mean your off by a few milliseconds, just enough out of sync for you to hear it. Heck I even had this with 2 different FM radio’s in the same room.

When multi-room audio is implemented in Volumio it would expect you to run Volumio on two systems and not just a player on your pc that has to sync. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but its more trouble than it’s worth to many. Adding speakers and run a wire to your office/pc room could be much easier.

Thanks for the reply. I was figuring that might be the situation, but worth an ask anyway. Oh well.
