Hey All,
I am sending a Volumio streaming box I made to a friend over in the USA. I would like for it to automatically connect to his wifi as I would like to have a few of his favourite radio stations pre-programmed on the streamer. I have his ssid and password for his wifi, is there anything else I need to think about?

If you have a myVolumio account for this US friend, His favorite stations will be synced to Volumio. On his login it will be available.
I don’t think you can setup a (for you) non existing WL connection (as the connection can’t be confirmed) and expect that it will work once connected.
You can also leave it unconfigured, and have the US friend use the hot spot. to connect to the device.
Cheers Wheaten, that sounds like a good plan. Although could I do it via the file system instead? My friend isn’t very tech savvy
Everything is possible, but i think it way easier to give him a call and setup WiFI via the Volumio interface then debugging altered system settings…
The latter is never a good option 
a little trick you can use:
create a hotspot with your smartphone, using the very same SSID and password of your US friend.
then setup Volumio to connect to this hotspot, after powering down you will have the correct settings without manual edit of the system

to create the hotspot do i need to turn the wireless networking off?
the hotspot must be created on a smartphone, then with another smartphone you setup the volumio device
