Thank you very much @Darmur. The SMSL N100 has now become the most powerful streaming player in my mind. Top-notch sound quality is its basic feature, supporting ROON bridge and LMS (the greatest streaming playback software) bridge. It has built-in Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect. It supports lossless system replacement, can support DietPi (and other various LINUX), install NAA bridge and other multiple music playback software. USB WIFI is supported on DietPi, and the 8192CU chip has been tested.
In China, it can be purchased for just $275, but even SMSL themselves have not fully recognized the powerful potential of this machine, and the promotion efforts are very limited. This product bridges the gap between factory-made machines and DIY enthusiasts, with a powerful system and high-quality multiple digital outputs. With good marketing, this machine could become very popular. Unfortunately, a year has passed and sales are estimated to be average.
Looks like someone in China who has good connections to SMSL should make them aware of the potential and of the wish of the community to have an upgrade to Volumio 4. SMSL don’t seem to respond to requests from ROW, so some local pinging might help.
The NEO3 is from the same family as the NEO4 that was used by T+A in the 3100 HV, so the streaming device seems ok.

For $275, you can build and assemble a network player or streamer yourself.
Furthermore, if something goes wrong, you can easily replace individual components or upgrade them yourself.
That’s my opinion.
But not with the looks of the SMSL N100 ![]()
Did anyone tried to connect a 3.5" HD?
Is there enough power on board?
The current device allows for independent operation system and TF card replacement. The SBC motherboard can be independently operated, and if it malfunctions, a replacement can be purchased. It also features a quality digital coaxial and balanced coaxial output, along with additional USB ports and WiFi connectivity. Additionally, it includes a low-noise power supply and is housed in an exquisitely crafted aluminum alloy casing. It is difficult to assemble all these components so beautifully on your own
Russian people have also developed a PURE OS that you can try out, Pure OS for NEO3 (RUS) - #323 от пользователя ppy - Основная - PureDSD,
Hello everyone.
I have been using this streamer for about 8 months now. Because I was frustrated with the connection issues and lack of Roon support I decided to do what some users on HeadFi did and turned it into a USB Roon bridge device. It has worked flawlessly in this way since. The downside of this is all other functionality is lost. I have not really missed any of it because I am primarily streaming Roon. I have continued to monitor the SMSL site for a new firmware update but there has been none.
Am I reading it correctly here that the previous issues have been solved and the device is now Roon certified and functioning correctly with Roon?
the SMSL is not Roon certified. This is something SMSL has to initiate and take care of directly with Roon
Could you please point me to the resource to convert the N100 to a USB Roon Bridge device?
I leaned heavily on Chatgpt but I am also somewhat tech savy which helps. There is also Codex now that can actually do the work for you.
Basically, you would download Nano Pie Neo3 which is what the streamer is using. You would then flash it to the micro sd card from inside the unit. Then use an IP finder like IP anywhere to locate the IP address of the device on your network. Then you would SSH into it and proceed with the install. Chatgpt helped alot with optimizing and making sure Roon bridge auto updates.
I did this over 8 months ago and its been hands off since with no issues.
To be clear before you proceed,USB will be the only usable output. The power button will not function so it will always be on,also the LED on the front will never stop blinking but its very easy to unplug.
Also worth mentioning is when just out of curiosity I reinstalled the firmware from SMSL the version of Volumio was no longer the paid version.
I still find it hard to believe SMSL turned their back on this device and never addressed the many issues with it. Its a great sounding streamer!
Thanks for the new firmware!
