I have Volumio V 3.832, running on an RPi5, connected to a HiFiBerry DAC. I have the HiFiBerry DAC Plus DSP driver selected, but I am not getting any signal to my DAC Hat.
I am finding conflicted reports about needing to lock the clock at a specific rate, or possibly set Test Mode in order to load beta software, but then I find other threads that say the opposite. Which is it?
Is there a driver developed yet for the HiFiBerry DAC Plus DSP that works on the Pi5? Or do I have to go back to a Pi3 and the shared USB/Network buss issues to get my DAC working again?
If I can get Volumio to work on the Pi5 with the HiFiBerry DAC, is there one place for solid instructions?
Hi Darmur, the DAC I’m using is actually the Orchard Audio PecanPi+ DAC hat.
The “HiFiBerry DAC Plus DSP” driver is recommended by Orchard Audio, and in fact, the driver that works flawlessly with the RPi3.
When I saw that Volumio supports the Pi5, I saw my opportunity to get away from the shared Ethernet/USB bus of the Pi3 and upgraded. Unfortunately there seems to be some difference in the way the two machines handle the i2s output, resulting in no audio.
I’d really like to get this working, as this is by far the best sounding DAC I’ve heard. And that’s coming from a 35+ year, career audio engineer.
If I have to go back to the Pi3 it’s not the end of the world, but I would like the ability to connect my FLAC storage via USB, without impacting network throughput.
I’ll give the “HiFiBerry DAC” driver a try and report back.
yes, RPi5 handles the I2S bus in a different way, compared to the previous models, it makes use of the new RP1 IC developed by Raspberry Pi themselves. On the previous models, the I2S bus was handled directly by the Broadcom CPU
maybe the Hifiberry DAC plus DSP overlay/driver was not updated to work properly on the RPi5, but the Hifiberry DAC overlay/driver works fine on the RPi5 and should work with the PecanPi DAC as well.
I set “HiFiBerry DAC” overlay in Volumio and restarted the Pi5, but still no audio. I am getting signal from my PecanPi to my system just fine as it’s still passing audio from the RCA SPDIF coax input, to the balanced out, but when I have music playing in Volumio, I get nothing on the output.
The instructions from Orchard Audio specify the “HiFiBerry DAC Plus DSP” overlay for the Pi3 and the Pi4, I assume there is a reason that Leo says to use that overlay as opposed to the “HiFiBerry DAC” overlay for those units? Could it be that there is something specific to the Plus DSP overlay needed for the PecanPi?
NOTE: I originally used a Pi4 which worked beautifully, but unfortunately does not fit the PecanPi’s steel case, as the ports are reversed from the Pi3. I picked up a Pi3 and used that which worked as expected, but the Volumio UX was laggy and occasionally glitchy. I saw Volumio is now compatible with the Pi5 so I upgraded to that, which fits the case perfectly and Volumio is much snappier with zero lag, but unfortunately if I can’t get audio to hit my DAC, it’s a bit useless.
I apologize for my ignorance, as I really don’t know enough about the backend or coding to really know what I’m doing. I’m just good at assembly and following instructions.
Hi I’m using raspi4 with suptronic hat 5500x ampilfier I get sound out RCA PLUGS but no sound out of t round this teminal speaker screw in port out so I just bought adapter to get around this it happen to me ages ago but fixed not sure how.
Hi all. I’ve the same problem with Pi5 and HDMI-Coax-Opti I2S DAC (WM8804g chip) card from TeraDek: no sound from any output (Raspberry Pi4b I 2S Hdmi Coaxiale Optische Hifi Pifi Digi + Digitale Audio Geluidskaart Decoderen Bord Dsd64 128 256 512 Volumio Moode - AliExpress 1420).
When I purchased it, was wrote Pi5 compability, but after several tests: 3 different Volumio installations, using a clean Raspberry OS and different config.txt and/or cmdline.txt configurations, the situation never changed, so I think that there is an uncompability between DAC card and RasPi5.
If so, is there any trick to bypass it?
If not, someone can suggest me a DAC card, better with optic output, working with Volumio and RasPi5?
Thanks to all that canhelp me
