RPi4 + Audioquest Cobalt

Hi all,

I now try to start Volumio with RPi4 and Audioquests Cobalt. As streaming source I use TIDAL HiFi Plus. Good news … I hear music. Bad news … for some reason I don’t manage to hear MQA/HiRes Audio. I alway “just” have 44,1/24.
Any ideas? Whats the best setup/setting? Any guide?
Does it make any difference if USB2 or USB3?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Did you set the mixer type to none?
As Volumio is not licensed for MQA, it can only pass through MQA.
In order to make this work, there can be nothing in the Audio path,
No Soft- or Hardware mixer, no Fusion-DSP.

ok. This was a good hint … it was enabled.
I now use no mixer type, no DSP.

But just 44,1/24

Playing with DSD setting?

Nope, just settings like this passes through the full MQA signal;

Source is MQA playback is 44,1/24

yes, that’s something that is related to the fact that volumio only passes through a signal.
The above screenshot from my DAC, is this track:

MQA very basic, consist of two containers.

  • 1 lossy audio format
  • 1 trickbox to make the compromised audio signal acceptable

Since Volumio is not licensed for MQA, It will only display the lossy container.
But as you can see on my DAC, it passes the full signal.

Sorry, but not in my case. :frowning:

I expect your audio path is not clean. Something is messing with the signal.
Please post a full log when you play a Tidal track:

I have 3 systems with a MQA DAC, all display the MQA symbol.

I meantime did a complete factory default.
Just switch to Audioquest Cobalt, no mixer an TIDAL account.

After that I did the photos. :frowning:

I will send log in a min.

One small thing, it’s better to put the Cobalt in the USB3 port.

I use USB3 all the time. :wink:
Just wanted to know if USB2 is better maybe.

I don’t see anything out of the ordinary.

@volumio
Hi Mi,
Any thoughts on this, I don’t see anything wrong.
