After much effort, patience and goodwill, I’ve decided to step away from Volumio for good.
I believe in giving products and development teams the time they need to evolve — and I certainly did.
I provided clear, respectful feedback in good faith. Not once, but twice.
What I received in return? Silence. Not even a basic acknowledgment.
Let me be clear: I wasn’t expecting miracles — just a gesture of attention, a simple reply.
Sadly, silence spoke louder than any words could.
While I appreciate the vision behind Volumio, the execution — especially in stability, user respect, and transparency — continues to fall short.
In comparison to leaner, community-driven solutions (like PiCorePlayer), Volumio increasingly feels like a product focused on marketing over meaningful interaction.
This will be my final post here.
I truly hope the team realizes that building a strong audio platform isn’t just about features — it’s about listening, too.
Farewell — and good luck to those who stay.
— A long-time user who simply expected to be heard.

Thank you for your feedback. I was a bit surprised by your post, especially since it appears to be your first contribution here, I may have missed earlier posts if they exist?
I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to share your thoughts respectfully and in good faith.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts here. I understand your frustration and I want to address your points as clearly as possible.
However, I noticed that this is your first post, as @Wheaten too, and your account was created about 15 minutes ago. This forum doesn’t seem to have any prior activity from you, nor have there been any replies by you in any post yet. It’s possible that you may not have found the most appropriate section of the forum for this kind of feedback.
Volumio is a community-driven platform, and while user feedback is always valued, it’s important to ensure that feedback reaches the right channels for a response. If you’re looking for more direct communication with the Volumio team, I would suggest exploring official support channels or specific areas in the community that deal with product feedback.
I understand your concerns about stability, user respect, and transparency, and I agree that those are important for any product to succeed. Hopefully, your message can lead to more constructive conversations in the right spaces.
I initially reached out to a technical contact, then followed up with someone who seemed to act like the CEO. Unfortunately, both interactions ended with polite acknowledgments but no meaningful solutions — just the usual “We understand you, but this is our policy” response, effectively shutting down the conversation.
A concrete example of my frustration is how Volumio handles the “Roon Ready” feature: it is enabled only on Volumio’s own hardware, excluding users who run the software on other devices. Moreover, streaming music via Roon shows no track info or visuals on the screen, rendering the premium feature useless.
This is especially frustrating when free alternatives like Picore Player offer full Roon support and display capabilities without issue.
Both replies I have received so far have focused more on my forum activity or when I created my account, rather than addressing the actual product problems I described.
If pointing out flaws results in tone policing or formality policing, then I question how seriously user feedback is truly welcomed.
I didn’t come here to argue — I came here after exhausting all other options.
If this forum isn’t the right place to voice honest product concerns, please direct me to where real answers are given.
Thank you for your time, and I still hope Volumio improves because the potential is there.
You need to understand that this forum is operated and maintained entirely by members of the community, folks just like yourself who share a passion for Volumio and audio projects. We have no formal or direct affiliation with the Volumio development team or company.
So when you post a complaint or raise an issue here, please know that you’re speaking to fellow users who are doing their best to help, troubleshoot, or offer guidance, but we have no visibility into your communications with Volumio’s official support channels.
We’re here to help each other as best we can, within the limits of a community-led space.
Roon. Roon Ready status applies specifically to Volumio’s own hardware, either already licensed or currently undergoing the certification process.
For other platforms, like Raspberry Pi 4 or x86 devices running Volumio OS, there’s a community-developed plugin available. This plugin isn’t provided or supported by Volumio directly, but by fellow users in the community, people just like you.
I understand this is a community-led forum, but the responses I received earlier — especially ones explaining Volumio’s internal policies — gave the impression that I was speaking to individuals with closer ties to the company.
If that’s not the case, I accept that, but then I’m also concerned that users like me are left with no proper way to voice feedback where it will truly be heard.
I appreciate the help from the community, but the disconnect between paying users and the actual Volumio team is a problem in itself.
I’ll now step back from this thread, but I do hope someone from Volumio takes the time to review the concerns raised here.
