Dear Volumio Developers,
I am writing to you with a major frustration regarding the shuffle/random playback mode . I have a huge music library (over 500 GB), and I rely on auto-start with song memory. Frankly, your player is terrible in this regard.
The issue is that it constantly plays the same set of tracks over and over again. I don’t know the logic by which the player selects them, but the result is clear: some songs play on repeat, while others never get played at all. I have more than 500 GB of music on my drive, yet I’m forced to listen to the same tired rotation every single day. It completely defeats the purpose of having a large library.
I know about the Randomizer plugin , but it’s not a solution for me. You already have a native shuffle button in the player , and that’s the feature that should work properly. Moreover, the Randomizer plugin doesn’t work for my setup because I also keep audiobooks on the same drive , and I have no way to isolate them from the plugin. As a result, the plugin mixes audiobook chapters into my music playlist, which is completely unacceptable.
I found that other users have reported the exact same issue—shuffle repeating the same tracks while ignoring most of the library—and also noted that the Randomizer plugin is unsuitable when audiobooks are stored on the same drive.
Please fix your native randomizer. A truly random shuffle should eventually cycle through my entire collection, not just a small, repetitive subset of it, and it should work out of the box without requiring users to install third‑party plugins.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
