Problems loading library - special characters?

I took the drive containing my Music Library from my Ubuntu machine, and connected it to Volumio.
I’ve both connected it directly, as well as accessing it over the network (while it was still in my Ubuntu box).
In both cases, It only loads fewer that the first thousand (of 30K) pieces. From what it loads, and where it stops, my guess is that there are characters that Ubuntu / Banshee doesn’t mind that Volumio doesn’t handle.
Is there any documentation on this topic? Would hate to have to do a trial and error search through the library.

You should be able to see where MPD scanning gets stuck by looking at /var/log/mpd.log
