Printing Current Song Info (Artist, Album, Track)

Hello!
I am a Linux beginner so bare with me. I would like to pass along the track information from Volumio/MPD to a separate micro-controller that will take care of displaying that info on a screen. I would like to send that info over i2C or Serial automatically each time a new song is played. I am using an Udoo, not a Pi however. Would writing such a script be easy?

I know its for a Raspberry Pi but you might be able to use and adopt the scripts.
