I am currently using Volumio on a trial basis with a NUC and Eversolo a6 as a DAC. I would like to ditch the Eversolo and am considering the Volumio Primo Plus. But then I wondered if Volumio on the NUC with a Precisio would be a better option.
What do you all think? Are there even better options?
Thanks,
Chris
The Primo Plus essentially integrates the Preciso DAC stage (dual ESS ES9039Q2M in a dual‑mono layout), but there are some differences in overall design and implementation.
The Primo Plus is a complete streamer with a lifetime Volumio license, while the Preciso is a standalone DAC only.
Also worth noting: your NUC is likely the weaker link in the chain, mainly due to potential electrical noise and active cooling (fan). The Primo Plus, being fanless and purpose-built, avoids those drawbacks.
As for which is the better choice, that really depends on your budget and sonic preferences, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here.
But back to your ask, I would opt. for the Primo Plus.

Thanks for the pointers. I’m nearly there with the Primo Plus. I’ve been enjoying Volumio on NUC. It has been very solid on my network. But I do want to get rid of the monthly charge. At this point I see no reason to get the Vivo/Preciso.
